Ducmonsta's Epic Cross Country Trip - July-September

Sadly I do not have enough experience with westerly things. My only recommendation is to hit up Dogfish brewery, brewpub and new seafood restaurant right beside the brewpub. I do have experience with beer and food and enjoy almost anything those guys make. I was just up there in April buying some 120 minute. Safe travels and look forward to the pics and updates.

Damn! I will be in Ouray/Telluride area Labor Day Weekend. Would have loved to go on the White Rim Trail with you guys. I did the whole trail a few years back and it was awesome.

Well, I've got some spotty 3G service in Badlands and I'll try to update as best I can remember. Currently, I'm chillin in Recon with this as my view...

The 10 or so days in Yellowstone was awesome. Despite the crowds in the popular places, my family managed to do a bunch of hikes where we only came across a handful of people.

Spent some time traveling between Canyon campground and Bridge Bay and had lunch at one of the many lakes surrounding Yellowstone.

Explored a little town called Gardner just outside of the park.

And ate lunch at a very recommended local dig.

I've got to go and feed the pups right now and typing and loading pics on an iPhone on 3G isn't quite as fun as you'd think. I'll try and update again this evening when the kiddos go down.

Unfortunately, no. I'll be high tailing it through I70 to get to Denver/Moab/White Rim in late August.

Came across a a built up LC at Old Yellowstone Inn while having dinner. I feel like it's safe to assume they were on their honeymoon.

Even found a "legal" trail to explore IN Yellowstone. I've got video but I'll have to upload that when I have enough bandwidth.

It's a one way road down towards The town of Gardner and offered some great views near Mammoth Springs.

Took the fam out onto Yellowstone Lake for a day of boating.

It's actually a hidden but designated one way trail out the back of Mammoth Springs. I'm assuming not too many people know about it because we were the only ones on the road the whole way. It dumps you out near Roosevelt Arch by the town of Gardner.

So after the 10 days in Yellowstone, it was time for me to drop off the better half in Cody, Wy so she could catch a plane back to PDX. Someone's gotta pay the bills!

And I'm hoping someone can explain what "traditions of Africa" means in a hotel in Cody, WY?!?

For those that don't know, 2016 is the 100 year birthday of the National Park Service. I didn't know until I got to Yellowstone. So all the national parks are doing some pretty fun things at their respective locations. My kids are enjoying becoming junior park rangers.

They have to complete a booklet of tasks which usually includes being involved with a ranger talk/demonstration, a hike, and usually a video presentation. Then they get sworn in as a junior ranger and achieve a badge and sometimes a patch. Their collection is becoming quite impressive.

I'm also taking the time to teach them about some history at places like the Minuteman Missile National Historic Site.

Now it was off to the Big Horn NF for the nights camp.

Glad the Minuteman site was open. I drove by it on the one day of the week it is closed last year. Of course I didn't even know it was there until I took the exit for Badlands.....
