After adding mount/balance, it was still cheaper for me to buy from my local Firestone shop.

Yes, if you have the V8, you will need to change the spare to a 265/70 if you go that route.

Also, your speedo, abs, vsc, etc. will be out of adjustment. Not by much, but it is not to factory specs.

Why do you have to run the same size spare? What happens if you don't?

For those of you running the bigger tires, have you noticed any differences because the factory settings were set to the 265/65/17?

If you have the V8 and 4WD you must run four tires of the same size. The 4WD is permanent, having one tire out of size will cause the drivetrain to constantly adjust for the one bigger tire turning at a different rate than the other three.
 
Keep a lookout for those coupons that come from your local Toyota dealers. I recieved a coupon for buy 3 tires get one free which my dealer had to honor and I ended up getting 4 Dueler A/T Revo with mounting/balancing for $470.

To elaborate a bit - it is the ATRAC system that will have a problem. With mismatched tires on an axle the ATRAC system will think that the smaller tire is slipping (because that wheel is spinning faster) and will be continually applying the brake to that wheel.

With a V6 you could avoid this by putting it in 2WD mode and placing the mismatched tires on the front axle.
 
There must be a threshold before ATRAC kicks in. If you had one tire that had low or high pressure compared to the others, it would effectively be the same as a different size. Seems like ATRAC would freak out at that as well?

Yeah, it would be a really interesting experiment for someone to put different diameter wheels on an axle and see what actually happens.
 
Costco sells Bridgestone tires. I didn't know that they did but I was there the other day to get a tire for my accord. So I asked about the price.

$160 each mounted and balanced. And they can get the 265-65-17 size. I was told by the service manager they will be on sale mid January $80 off a full set. This price includes free road hazard warantee, lifetime balance and rotation.

Tire rack currently has them for $143 but that price does not include shipping, mounting or balance. Figure $50 for shipping (may be more or less depending on your location). And $15 each for mounting and balance. These estimates are conservative.

Tire rack-
set of 4 w/mounting and balance $682
set of 5 w/mounting and balance $840

Costco (January)-
set of 4 w/mounting and balance $560 + Tax
set of 5 w/mounting and balance $720 + Tax

Come January I will be upgrading.

Sounds like a plan to me. I will be buying the Revo A/T 265-65/17 around the first of the year also.

Unless Michelin comes out with a 265-65 LTX MS before then.
 
I have the Michelin LTX MS (31-10.5-15) on my Taco and they are horrible in the snow and rain.

I did asked Costco about this tire size, too. They quoted me with the same price, but I didn't know it included the lifetime balance & rotation.

Do these offers always have at Costco for all types of size? Or is it just special?

I am unsure. I was told that by the manager. I don't see why it would only apply to this specific tire.
 
I've also inquired at costco about the revos and the prices were the same as jj8111 stated. I'm really tempted to get the Revos now, but i don't want to throw away my Dunflops w/just 12k miles on them. I'm heading up to Big Bear to snowboard some time this month & hope the Dunlops will perform decently. Has anyone had any problems w/Costco (ie- poor balancing). i wonder if costco will do a good balance job since i've heard alot on this forum that tire shops need a "Haweka Flange Plate Adaptor". I asked a sales rep about it, but he said that their usual method is to reverse the cone to balance the tire. He also mentioned that they have another method/device of balancing the tire (which you must request them to do, otherwise it the reversed cone method), but he didn't mention anything about a plate adaptor.

For those of you who up-sized from 265-65-17 to 265-70-17, have you noticed any change in the ride/performance? did it affect the acceleration, gas mileage, or causing any rubbing under normal driving? I'm thinking of going w/the 70s instead of 65s, but I'm not sure if it's a good idea. Thx n adv!
 
I got rid of the Dunlops at 10K miles, and installed OEM size Revos. I live in an area that gets a fair amount of snow, and believe me you don't want to go into a snowy winter with the Dunlops. So far the Revos have not effected MPG, and they afre very secure in the wet (no snow yet).:D
