Dumb wheel spacer question

I notice most peeps run 1.25 spacers. Is that the minimum thickness required to "cover up" the oem stud? I know I could just pull off a wheel and measure the stud, but someone here has to know this. I guess the back of the rim plays a factor, and if there's any room for the tips of the oem studs to fit in between the lug holes.
I kinda sorta want to throw some spacers on mine, the tires just look like they could be out a little further to me...but 1.25 seems a little far....

Most people run 1.25" SpiderTrax because that's the only size they sell. You could go to some non-hubcentric in a smaller size but they're pretty much junk and it's a b!tch to lose a wheel.

I thought the lug-centric spacers were completely unsafe.
 
I was just looking at those ^ and I think I might do the 1 inchers.
I just wasn't sure why people only run 1.25... I didn't want to try to reinvent the wheel (spacer)!!
 
i never had to trim my studs when i had 1.25" spacers on. I run 1.5"s now. Id only run Hub Centric and torque to spec. Check every time you rotate or have the wheel off for any reason. Never had an issue.

Ya that wasn't computing for me , never trimmed anything WTF ?

I have some free time today, maybe I'll pull off a wheel and use a tape measure.
I also emailed BORA, just to see what they say. I'm not trimming (grinding?) studs just to keep it 1/4 inch narrower...
I had 1.5 eBay spacers on the rear of my 88 prerunner yota to get the rear closer to the width of the +3 over front end, and never had a problem in many hard, fast desert miles. I don't plan to thump this 4Runner nearly half as hard.
 
The difference between 1 inch and 1.25 is so small that why even bother? I did the 1.25 spidertrax and could see just a tad more to be honest...
 
Studs are 1 1/16 inch from the rotor, so there will be a little sticking out past the spacers. My rims could accommodate this, as there is machining on the back in between the lug holes, but I might need to hit them with a grinding wheel just a hair...not gonna happen.
Anyone in the OC area got 1.25s I can test out?!?! ;) Rental fees payable in beer?
