Dumdum Reporting (Belt Sizes)

I got three new drive belts: 420k4, 412k4, and 345k4.

Those are the sizes the computer at Canadian Tire told the salesperson. Anyway, the 420k4 is the same as a 4pk1065, and the old-ass belts I have from last year, one of them is 4pk1070. As much as I know this 1070 is oddly big (don't know what the previous owner did).

I want to know I have the right sizes for my 2001 before I play with installation, and this difference made me distrust either that old belt or Canadian Tire. I don't want to play with the belts on there yet, and I can't find easy belt size info anywhere on the net.

The belts I have register as being OK for my Runner year at justparts.com for their Bando sizes (and they don't list 4Runners under the 1070 size).

We are talking about the AC, Alternator, and PS belts correct? I can't help you on the sizes of the belts you already have but I would just get OEM. Order them from toyotapartscheap.com. They are cheap and you will know for sure they are the right sizes.

I noticed the same discrepancy with Bando's listing for the PS belt as well two years ago. Bando's website lists the 4pk1065 as the approved belt; Toyota crossreferences the 4pk1070 Bando belt for use as a PS belt replacement. I advised my friend to go with the 1070, and have heard no problems from him in using it. If you have a choice, use the 1070.

Good luck with the install. And be careful in using the degreaser.

These are the belts I got in my timing belt kit and they worked fine.

You should be good to go with what they gave you.

Belt numbers are to the 10th of an inch.
EX: 420K4 = 42.0in. and the 4 = Four rib belt.

Or you can go the other way
4PK1065 = Four rib belt. and 1065 = 106.5mm


So the one they gave you was a 1065. And the one on the truck is a 1070. The difference is only 5mm The 5mm should be able to be made up in the belt tensioner. That's why Toyota puts such a damn long bolt in them.

Sweet. Now I know a lot more about belts than I did yesterday morning. Not a bad thing, and by tomorrow I'll actually know how to put new ones in (which will help if one ever breaks in the middle of nowhere).

The ones I have will be fine, but if I'm near Toyota today I may pick up OEM from them just because I'm picky about numbers.

I got some at Toyota just to satisfy myself. They are 1070, 1050 and 870. Now I'm happy. It seems strange that there's no listing of the stock belt required.

I got the 4PK1065 in a Timing Belt and Water Pump kit.

During the installation I noticed that my kit had the 4PK1065 instead of the 4PK1070 that I had removed and Napa had referenced for me. It went on. So size is the only difference? So the 4PK1065 should be fine?
