DUMPING XREAS - Toytec Ultimate or OME??

Let's get the posts going boys!

It's time to upgrade the suspension on my 03' Sport. Here are the variables.

1) I like the idea of suspension change rather than spacers. Thoughts?
2) Light offroading however use my 4rnr for hunting and trail duties.
3) Towing capabilities: I have a Malibu VTX (4000lb) boat I tow
4) Labor - I plan on doing the install myself, any specifics on removing the XREAS?

Xreas is pretty simple to remove if you dont care about it. Simply just rip it out. But prepare to get a little wet doing it, theres a lot of pressure in those lines and it sprays when you remove the bolts.

You should be alright with towing. I have the toytec 3" spacer lift and haul malibu's as well. I worked for a Malibu dealer and would haul boats almost daily. I did upgrade my rear springs from the normal ones you buy with the spacer kit.
 
I vote for the ultimate as well.

No need to get wet though..here are a few points:
1. put your 4Runner on jack stands so all 4 wheels are off the ground and disconnect shocks and canisters at the check valves.
2. The tubing is a pain...just bend them straight-ish and get it out of there.

I agree... Consider putting some airbags in the rear too. They are cheap and will go nicely with your setup.

OME is good stuff but the adjustability of the Toytec is very cool and it's good stuff too.

I say OME. I know i would probably never use the adjustability of the toytecs

What makes the Toytec better than the OME, is it just the adjustibility? Does it ride and/or handle better (on and offroad)? When you adjust it for hight does it also vary the stiffness to accomodate heavier loads like bumper/winch? I notice it comes with a diff drop kit, which adds to the value. Is the diff drop kit necessary, or benficial? If so, that is an advantage over the OME, but I have read that there could be safety issues with lowering the front diff. Anyone know anything about the new OME Nitrocharger Sport shocks?

When my XREAS dies, or when I get a bull bar I will upgrade suspension. I was thinking OME, but this thread (and others) has me considering Toytec Ultimate now. Man, if only I was rich...
 
the adjustability allows u to crank the coils up for higher lift and to accomadate a heavier load. the diff drop kit will put your CV's at a better angle to make them last longer and not stress them so much. what a lot of 2wd guys do is get lift spindles to achieve the 3.5 inches of lift but they crank the coil overs down a ton to get a Super soft and comfortable ride for high speed off road runs. i belive there are some 3 inch lift spindles out there that a 4wd 4runner could use with a diff drop kit and crank the coil overs all the way down to get the lift and soft ride even if u have a winch bumper

There are not currently any 4wd spindles out there, only gussets to reinforce them, which have nothing to do with lift. Also, spindles dont "upgrade" your suspension, just provide lift, so if you are looking for better dampening, rebound, resistance to fade, travel etc... they will not provide any of those.

Anyways, back to the topic of this tread....
 
i know this but spindles with an adjustable coil over up front will allow u to adjust a lot more with out sacraficing lift. and i thought i saw some 4wd spindles. guess not

I wish there were, I would buy them in a second haha
 
why not ask a company all the way over there in california where u are to custom make u some. there are so many damn 4 wheel drive company's over there that will fab u anything u want. haha i cant wait to get out there :)

There are definitely a bunch of places that could do 4wd spindles, similar to those are race trucks, but it would require new axels amongst other things, all of which would end up far outside my budget sadly. :cry:
 
+ 1 on the air bags for the rear. i only pull a 6x12 utility trailer with to quads on it and 4 passengers plus camping gear for the weekend and 10lb of air in my airlift 1000 bags does great. no sag in the back and rides smooth. when we get home air em down to 5lb.

Sorry to say but Overlanders is in Southern Cal and I am in Nor Cal weich is about 350 miles apart. Big state.

I do like the idea of looking at other vendors for the suspention. Thanks for to everyone thus far for the good post. Please keep them coming and try to stay on the XREAS to suspension swap topic. CHEERS!:driving:
