Duratracs vs. Silent Armors... Help!

Hey there, I got a question about your mileage. Did you factor in the larger size for the distance? I wasn't sure what you were running before but stock on my truck was 30.6" and those are 32.1. Might make your mpg go back up a little more.

I have been running duratrac's (went with stock diameter for now 245/75r16) and from what I saw I didn't really see a difference in mileage from my last tire. They are great off road so far and on road I have only gotten them to slip because I have mine at 50lbs psi. I am running c rated tires though so 50 psi is max.

I'm torn between 265 & 285 Duratracs. Wheel-wise, thinking of the Pro Comp 7089, 17x8, 4.5" backspacing. I wonder if the 285's on 17x8 will be better with rub issues? I'd really like the 285 but if the 265 is much better in terms of rub, I may go with those. You're lookin' good there BTW!

Thanks! Do they not make a 275 in that wheel size? You may be ok with 285's on 17's but it will probably be really close. Let me know what you end up going with!

I haven't got a chance to calculate mpg factoring in the larger tire. I think my stock tires were about 30 and these are 32... I'm just going based on what the computer is telling me so far. I try to keep in mind that I'm actually going faster than what the speedometer says as well!

Why are you running the duratracs at such a high psi? Mine are at like 35 I think and they run super smooth

Unfortunately, no 275. There's a member who did 285/70/17 on a 9" rim who had major issues, so I may try an 8" rim. He's now switched to a 265/70 on his 9" rim & says it's much better. If there's not much difference in appearance, it may be better for me to do the 265/70/17... would save me a couple MPG as well...decisions, decisions....

Looks like you have to deal with snow and ice... how are those MTRs with that? Did you get them siped?

I have stock Toy rims on a stock height 07 SR5 4runner & went from oem style radial 265/65/17 Mich LTX/ M/S2 to the Duratrac 265/70/17C with no rubbing issues at all fyi. :thumb3:
When it snowed a few inches the Michelin tires really just sucked and we have to go to work in snow/rain/shine.
We just got nailed with 8" snow and with Duratracs it was like a total different truck. I can tell you for sure they earned the designated snow symbol as its just amazing how well they do! Rather your taking off or stopping quick it makes no difference what so ever its like its glued to the streets.
I have the V8 and have not had any big mpg change at all on the meter or on paper even reflecting a 1" taller tire witch has shocked me. Its always been 16mpg in winter (all city)...But these are "C" not "E" and unlike "E" are lighter & need less air so they may roll better. I dont do hard off roading so a "C" = 6ply is fine with me.
It still drives like its on the Mich tires as they ride extremely smooth, not spungy at all in a 4runner, corner very well and are very,very quiet unless your on concrete highways then its noticed but no more than its radials Ive had on it.
I just love these Duratracs in dry,rain,snow/ice they are fantastic so far! Doubt they are great in deep mud but have read reviews saying they arent the worst though (see below). Should get a real M/T for that imo.

Something I learned is the Wally world Authority knock off is very close but not the same tire nor is the sharp looking Feirce attitude or Kelley TSR. Last 2 have different compounds & why no extreme snow ratings on them. Not that any are bad just different. Both lacking sizes.
I cought the rebate at Discount Tire and after mounted & everything I got the Duratracs for only $24 over Authority price for 4. I'll pay $6 more a tire to avoid walmart tire service no problem...:flipoff:.. lol
Ordered/mounted in two days.
Only bad thing is a couple freinds who I dogged for yrs for buying Goodyears will never let me rest now. :croc:

I like the DuraTracs...been through a few thousand miles and good snow duty. They are a very good all-rounder. Not as good (or tough) off road at the MTR Kevlars but quite good and better than any AT I have used. Quite good in the snow as well. They are louder than good ATs but that is to be expected. Not as loud as the MTRs, of course. Good tire for sure. I'll stick with the MTRs on the Jeep but I think these are likely the best all-rounders for guys who like going everywhere all the time. Just watch the sidewalls when airing down. I hear the C-rated DuraTracs can get pierced and shredded easier than the MTRs or other MTs.
