dust getting in, normal?

been doing a lot of off roading in nevada last few weeks, the roads are super dry and full of that super powdery poofy dust. it's getting in somehow and all over the inside of my rear door. i can smell it sometimes when i driving very fast on a powdery road, like 40-60 mph.

anyone else have this problem?

is it a known problem? any fixes for it?

It’s a car not a Hyperbaric chamber. Dust will get in eventually when you drive a lot of dusty roads. Unless you have piles of dust like if you left a window down, the only think you can do is keep a few rags in the door pockets to wipe things down. Check your cabin filter often

1. you can adjust the latch tension on the rear door, which is the common culprit for dust getting in.

2. You can also run you heat/AC fan on high, this will slightly pressurize the cabin, and keep the dust seep from getting in.



I always seem to slow down with the my windows down and stop then the cloud catches up..... I try to learn and not do this, roll up windows before I stop.

Your hyperbaric option is probably working just fine. You will find that when driving, dust accumulates around the door seals, then when you stop and open a door the seals flex and air movement disturbs the dust layers causing faint clouds to enter the cabin. In Australia we call it bulldust, and not matter what you do, it's getting inside.

Have to admit, its an off road vehicle... lol I think dust wasn't really a big concern at the time of its design, but that being said I also know its been a little much on occasion. I personally found a lot of the dust was coming in through the rear cargo hatch. so much so that the fabric pull down cable for the hatch would turn yellow from all they sand and dust coming in through the little hook it attaches to.

I just ended up making a decent clean job after each trip. Just a part of the vehicle I guess :dancin:

Being a boxy shape, vacuum allows dust to be sucked up and held against the body. The 5th Gen 4Runners hatch door design allows a substantial amount of dust and dirt to build up on top of the bumper and kept in place until it gets washed or swept out. My ‘18 Runner doesn’t allow dust inside ... yet. I imagine as the seal wears it will soon creep in, given the depth and amount of dust that gets sucked in under the door and held in place, even after ten miles of maintained dirt road driving. And where I live, that ten miles is just to visit the neighbor ...

i checked that out, i think it is all coming in thru the rear door,,,, appears to just be an ill fitting rear door at this point.
