DVD dash kit question

I have an 08 SR5 that I recently purchased that the OP put in a Kenwood DNX5120. The unit is older, but fully functional so I don't plan to replace it immediately.

My question is about the dash installation kit. It has the Metra double DIN install kit in it...and it looks pretty bad. The "ears" on either side of the unit have about a 1/8" gap between them and the head unit, and they just look tacked on. Is there a better flush mount kit or fascia that might look better?

I'll take some pics later and post them. If you have any pics of yours with a better install/surround, please show'em!

There are two Metra kits. From my experience, there's not clear way to tell which you need unless you try them. I know the one they list for my Limited is incorrect, other's have had similar issues.

It sounds like you have the wrong Metra kit. I'm going off memory, so please double check this info/part numbers. There's the 95-8202 which is just the side pieces (what you have) and the 95-8210 which is a full frame that will go around the head unit. The 8210 is wider on the edges to help fill the gap you're describing.

It's expensive, but the best kit is the Urban Runner trim ring. It's a OEM piece, so it's a much better fit/finish. There's a thread in the audio section with details on it I believe.

Interesting. I didn't know there were two Metra kits. I'll investigate to see which one I have.

I've seen pics of the urban runner trim ring; anyone have the hole dimensions on that?

If you're asking for the dimensions to know if it will fit, the urban runner trim ring is double din which is the same as your DNX series radio. Toyota part number:PZ365-35904

Here's my thread if you want to see the ring on a DNX series radio.

Problem is that thhere are two different sized dash openings on the 4runner. Both will fit a double din, one opening is wider/taller than the other though. I've not been able to determine what model/trim/feature causes the different opening size, thus the confusion. You need one of those two kits, the opposite of what u have. Other companies also make two kits, the metra is just the one I'm familiar with.

I had no idea 4runners had two sized stereo openings. I guess I should try and get the urban runner opening from an 08. Or does it matter? Are the limited and urban runner fascia the same part?

This is my Pioneer H/U with the Urban Runner trim ring.

The full frame kit, listed to fit the limited, did not fit mine at all. It is too wide for the dash opening. I had to use the one with just the side peices. My buddies sport with jbl used the full frame kit. I had thought that models equippped with the oem cd changer had the wider dash, but another member here without jbl or the changer had to use the wider kit. I have no clue, I would like measurements of thr ur trim ring, that's the only way to know which kit it equates to.

Its definitely the center dash piece and probably the radio bracket that make the difference. I sure hate the way the two "ears" from the 95-8202 kit look on mine.

The 8210 will take care of that, or the equivalent full frame kit from other manufacturers.

It would..but it doesn't fit. I bought one today. What I need now is an '03-'07 limited (with RDS) center dash insert :)

I like the way the 8210 looks better than the Urban Runner surround.
