I wanted a muffler that would provide better flow, take up less space under the vehicle, and sound great...but with NO interior noise or drone.
In the past, I've run Flowmaster 40 and 50 series mufflers, Thrush, Powerflo, Magnaflow, straight pipes, etc. Pretty much every brand and configuration out there, I've run it on my 4x4s in the past. With most of the ones I've had, there was a good sound outside the vehicle but there was a lot of DRONE and noise inside the cab of the truck around 1,600 RPM. Drone will drive you crazy and it's especially annoying to the wife and kids. So I did NOT want that.
I searched and searched the threads on this forum, and Google and everybody has varying opinions on the Magnaflow and Flowmaster setups. I couldn't really get a good feeling for what to expect. Then I stumbled upon the Dynomax website and noticed that they have a new muffler called the VT which stands for Valve Technology. The principle is simple...while cruising, an internal valve closes and prevents drone and reverberation inside the vehicle. When accelerating, the valve opens and allows straight through flow and performance. The valve is spring loaded and works off the airflow, no electric solenoids needed.
I ordered up part # 17949 from Summit Racing and it was delivered 48 hours later for $90 bucks. I took it to a reputable exhaust shop 30 miles away and they installed it this morning.

This muffler is the most awesome one I've ever used. At idle it literally sounds like the factory muffler. Cruising at 55, 60, 70...doesn't matter. There is NO drone. All you can hear inside is a mellow, sightly louder tone than factory. If you stomp it...it wakes up. The i-force V8 comes to life and this thing will scream. I freaking LOVE this muffler. Thank you Dynomax for making a muffler that doesn't run you out of the cab!
My previous experience with mufflers of this type (fiberglass packing inside) is that they will get louder over time as the packing burns in. So I will put a few thousand miles on it and report back later. But so far I'm very impressed. I held it up to the daylight and you could look right through it..so the performance and flow is obviously much better than stock, but the noise is not annoying. I'm digging this.
