How can i get the thing to turn off

The light comes on for 3 reasons:

- E brake is engaged (switch is at the back of the rod that moves when you pull the lever, under the dash.

- Brake fluid is low (switch is a float in the reservoir under the hood, it does sometimes stick)

- If the battery and brake lights come on together, you have a bad alternator.

The e-brake switch is mounted at the end of the rod that moves when you pull the lever, under the dash, just like Dingman said. If it is sticking in the On position when you release the brake, you have to unstick it or replace it.

The brake fluid level switch is part of the brake master cylinder cover.
