I need some advice. So I am looking to buy a 97 4runner limited that has some serious problems in the rear end... It is an e locker and has 197k miles on it... I am looking at it tomorrow, but what is a good price... Especially if i need to rebuild the rear end. Any thoughts? Is it worth my time to buy and repair and use? Or just pass it up and not worry... It seems it good condition. Haven't checked for rust or anything yet... Might have some other mechanical issues...

The entire rear end used runs about $500 +/- $150 depending on condition and what you need(wires/brain or just third or drum to drum drop in). That being said, if the rear end is blown, how would you test drive it to make sure the tranny or transfer case is in good working order, or is the rear end good, just without the e-locker functioning? Also, if the motor is functioning but the gears are blown here is ECGS link for the E-locker replacement. Just a few ideas and things to think about. Good luck, and it never hurts to take a look at it and see what all it may need. If its too much for you to tackle after looking shake hands and part ways. Easy peazy.
