E Locker Wiring

I need help wiring an E locker I picked up. I have the Diff lock ECU and the button.
I was wanting to wire it up as stock as possible. I looked behind the dash to see if the plugs were there for the button and ecu but they weren't there.
Has any one wired the E locker with the ecu without any stock wiring?
I've searched with no luck.

Also your rear might not be prewired for an elocker but your dash can be: mine was really well hidden/ stuffed into the dash.

There is always the kit if you are not to comfortable with wiring:
Ultimate Toyota Electric Locker ELocker Wiring Harness Kit by Low Range Off Road (TDI-ELWH)

Just for reference, you need these under your dash/speedometer:
-behind the speedometer, the yellow/blue strip wire (third from the left) goes to your rear diff light
-the green/yellow stripe and black yellow stripe is for the rear diff button
-the oem wiring in red are the only other things you need from your original 4runner if you are prewired

Clarification

I am putting an e-locker axle into my '01 SR5. I saw this harness (linked here). If I am correct this is plug it in, add power and the e-locker works. If this is true, why do you need a e-locker ecu and to do all that complicated wiring?

yep you are right

the only benefit that I know is that oems elocker cpu disables the abs when engaged or you can easily create an abs disable button from it.

Otherwise, if you are not pre-wired, i rather buy a entire cpu bypass harness.

I am probably repeating both of what we said, but I want to see for sure. The only thing you saw the ECU do was turn off ABS, which the orginal ANDY Mod can do super easy or the newer one can do even better.

You may simple not have them but if you have the yellow/blue strip wire behind the speedometer that I showed your chances are good that its somewhere behind the dash. Mine was wrapped back facing the engine among the wires that connect to the dash light dimmer left of your steering wheel.

I think they redid some of the wiring on 2000+ models so you might be out of luck.

There the ecu also limits when you can engage the elocker (must be in 4-lo and going less the 5 mph). I had to cancel the the 4x4 requirement because im only 2wd but there are mods you can do to ground those wires and lift those restrictions.

s20004runner is right, if not prewired I would just suck it up and buy the harness kit.

This is when I wish I had paid attention more in my '97 that had the e-locker.

I am not sure if you are talking to m about be wired for it. I doubt my '01 is set up for it. I just want to make sure going with the after market harness is a better choice then getting the ecu and going that route is all.

the plug to the button was little hidden, but the plug to the elocker cpu was very easy to find.

oh one more cpu elocker benefit may be the 5mph safety feature. There also is engage only in 4Lo, but many decides to disable that.

I am not worried about the speed safety. This switch is going to be mounted Higher up to avoid accidental engagement and I took the 4WD Lo safety off on my old one. why use 4WD when you most times locking the rear diff will do the job easier.

From my experience with my '97 that had the e-locker; The light is a good representation but the only way to know for sure is to go forward or backward. Cause sometimes it takes some movement to really lock in the locker. Also I noticed that even my '01 has the light for a rear diff lock on it. You may be able to tap into it.

Thanks. That was a big help. I think I have my wiring all figured out now. I am going to pick up some wire and other things today. Ordered some pins to add wiring from toyota today. Going to drink some beer and do some wiring tomorrow evening so I can bench test my locker.

The E locker axles is installed, wired, and working!
Thanks mainly to BFAD, but also to everyone else that replied.
BFAD, I used your wiring diagram and it worked great.



I am having one issue though. It seems the lock sensor is not working. When I press the button, the light flashes. I can hear the locker engage, but the light doesn't stop flashing. When I press the button to disengage, the light will skip a flash and continue to flash until it unlocks. So it seems it is sensing when it is unlocked, but not locked. Has anyone else had this problem? Any suggestions to troubleshoot further?
