Easy Fire road suggestions?

Does anyone have any suggestions for an easy fire road drive? My wife's parents are visiting from China and I was planning on taking a drive up Main Divide this week. That plan fell through with the fire. I need to keep it easy, dad has a bad back. It needs to also be within an hours drive or so of Irvine.

This one is a little rocky, as in small rocks, so its a little bumpy.. But i have seen vans going through it.. As long as they are ok for a little bumpy ride.

If you take this up all the way, you can do a hike called "Holy Jim Trail"
Its about 2 miles and extremely shaded.

Have fun!!!

Side note - is that your truck that's flipped in the picture?!

I've driven Trabuco twice. Once when it was in nasty good condition, and the second time when they leveled it. It is a nice little easy drive.

And, yes, that's my runner. I made a bad rookie mistake. Still need to get the rest of the dents taken care of and a new coat of paint.

These freakin fires keep popping up at the wrong time. Now they're messing with my meteor shower plans this weekend. Might have to head further north than I want.

If that is what you want then hit up Palomar Mt. There is a reason there is one monster telescope up there. It would be no more than an hour from you if you take the 74e over and then hit the 15s to the 76 and go east up the Mt.

Of course, there's always Cleghorn rd, which is just over an hour from you and is very easy if you stay on the main road. It ranges up to fairly difficult on some of the offshoots, though. The views are great and it'll be a little cooler at elevation. Right off the 15, just north of the 215.

Better check road conditions.

What about Saddleback/Santiago Peak? I was on it last Nov. and it was very tame. I think Trabuco connects if the gate is open, we went in & out from Hwy 74 to the south.

Thanks for all the suggestions! It looks like we're not doing any light off roading now. My wife doesn't think her parents will be comfortable in my old runner for a few hour trip.

Hi just found this section. Sorry your run got cancelled but I run these trails all the time just to get away and be in the dirt. I'm on the corona side but my buddy is on the Oc side and we meet at the intersection of maple springs and main divide and got from there or run it in reverse. So if you want to do it some time let me know. We like the evening/night trips in the summer it's more heat tolerable.
