Under way on changing out the stock non JBL stereo system in my 3 week old new to me 08' SR5. Just finished up swapping out the stock speakers in all 4 doors. I insalled JL Audio TR650-CXi 2-Way 6.5 in the rear doors and
JL Audio TR650-CSi 2-Way 6.5" in the front doors.
I am a novice installer and did not want to tackle the crossovers. A fair amount of modifiaction to the Toyota aftermarket speakers mounts that I found on EBay to get the speakers to sit flush in the mounts. The mounts lined up perfectly with the factory speaker mounting holes. I used closed cell foam tape to seat the speakers on the mount and a thicker closed cell foam tape between the mount and door skin as an inexpensive dampener. Didn't want to mess with Dynamat type products.
Tweeter mounting was a concern, but i found an inexpensive and easy way to mount the new tweeters in the factory mounts. I cut a piece of backstrap to length, the holes in the back strap lined up with the factory tweeter mounting holes. I had to make some small notches to pass the speaker wire through the tweeter mounts. But with cutting, filing down the edges, and mounting the tweeters, it was honestly about a 20 minute job for eah tweeter. Cheap and easy. Hope this helps out a bit with future installs and this forum has been invaluable to me.
