Was perfectly reasonable. I don't really consider people telling other people their posts suck "policing" - Policing is when moderators get involved and edit/close/delete discussions. Regular members are free to say whatever they want. I know after the 100th "Why am I getting 15 MPG?" post of the month, I want to take a break from T4R as well.

Point is your aren't the your acting like the T4R.prd nazi. Be cool, people have questions and they should feel free to start a thread about them. Many people feel their questions are answered when searching similar threads. If threads on the same topic become too frequent I trust that the moderators will take care of it. There isn't a reason to condescend other users

It's not that we don't like to help people. Most of the regulars on this board enjoy assisting others. But when posts like yours come across, it's obvious that you spent exactly zero time searching for the answer yourself and you expect to be spoonfed. Most of us get tired of spoonfeeding guys with entitlement mentalities, so you can expect to get a ration of shit like you're getting now every time you post a question with an obvious answer.
It's not that nobody likes you, or that anybody wants you to leave. Please stay, and contribute. You can start contributing by not cluttering up the forum with the same threads that get posted at least once a week and have already been answered ad nauseum. That way we don't feel like we're wasting our time when we do answer questions, and guys who are taking the time to search don't have to wade through piles of crap to find the thread they're looking for.

Nazi, really? If I weren't a f*ucking German and didn't still have family living in Germany this might be a comment that wouldn't bother me. It's something that most German's don't want their heritage drug through, and something I would rather not be associated with. It's cliches like this and the ignorance of some that make me sick. Calling a German a Nazi is like saying all Turks are Islamic terrorists; typical stereotyping. Now, we can keep going at this all day if you'd like, or we can let it go? The call is yours! I personally would like to just let it go, but I understand that is hard for some do (myself included).
I've already stated my disapproval of my original post (which can be seen in post #18), and stated that I should have kept my comments to myself. But, I'm still holding firmly to what I said about common threads cluttering up OUR site. I also feel that it's our responsibility as members to help the unpaid moderators make this site better for all members.

And not a single f*** was given that day. There will be people who will re-ask the same question over and over. And there is nothing any of us can do but help or answer. There will be people who do the SEARCH. I like seeing people poste everyday, it's fun to socialize and you never know, someone could always throw a tip out there that's never been said, or ask a question that's never been already asked. It's not like it's a law to search. Bottom line , we all own a 4runner and we all here to make our cars nice. So it's really not that big of a deal. Some people just don't have time or patience to sit and search. Some people do. What you think and what I think are two different things. Lets all get along.
It's a self perpetuating problem. You do a search for something common and come up with 600 threads with 2 posts each because nobody added to the original thread so you start another thread. If it was posted in the correct thread originally (or even one of the better of the search result threads) then you'd have one thread with all the answers. Like the buyers guide thread.

OK dude well he probably didn't know that you are German and your family is still in Germany. Sure you are sensitive to the word Nazi because of all the horrible crimes and everything else BUT you probably want to get used to its use in the American lexicon.
Anytime someone wants to call out fascism of any type they going to drop the Nazi bomb AND I seriously doubt he knew you were German so it wasn't a personal attack.
All that said ... I have no issues with Germany today. In fact lots and lots of Germans came here after WWII. Some even worked under the Pentagon.

In regards to the OP's interest in this particular 4Runner, the seller is Davis AutoSports in Virginia. Among other things, they specialize in super clean 3rd Gens. I check their inventory weekly as I'm looking or one myself, and have spoken with the owner (Jim, I believe), who was a really nice guy and a fellow 4Runner enthusiast.
I'd say most of the trucks they've had since I've been watching have been from the mid-Atlantic or northeast region, so a lot of them do indeed have some surface rust. Other than that, they sell some of the cleanest 3rd Gens I've ever seen. I feel I could buy confidently from them for sure. Virginia has some pretty healthy inspection requirements for used vehicles, but you should absolutely always have a pre-purchase inspection done, IMO.
And now, in an effort to lighten the mood a bit, I present this gif of Gary Busey's head superimposed onto the ghoulish creatures from the 1987 film, "The Gate":

I decided to but a Ford Explorer anyway. Much better vehicle and much more reliable. I've read too many blogs about how the Explorer trumps 4runners in every category......... Just kidding!
I decided not to buy that 4runner. I actually came close to buying a 4th gen much closer to home but dicked around on the decision and they sold it to someone else. Currently looking for either a 3rd or a 4th gen. Whichever comes up first that I like with what I want I'll grab it. It's been 2yrs since I've started my search so what's another year or 2?

Not only that but when the "Mechanical issues and problems" thread has way more posts than any other thread it's time to get another vehicle. My bad for not doing research on a VW before buying it. Traded it in for a Scion xB. Don't laugh, tough little car.

It's a dealer what should one expect. I guess they gotta eat too, right?
Thing is if you go to KBBdotcom put in that 4runner I should be paying around $5500.
KBB has a chart of what others typically pay. If you look at 4runners people mostly pay quite a bit more than what KBB suggests. I'm guessing because it's a damn good truck!

Correct. I've seen some 3rd Gens on their Ebay page with less than 30k miles. Dunno if that is possible but I doubt they'd roll the odometers back for fear of ruining their image.

You are going to pay at least $1000 - $1500 more just for stepping on a dealer's lot for this price range. You are paying for their margins essentially. For these model years of the 3rd Gen, they are buying wholesale and marking up to retail. You need to find out/estimate what the dealer paid, what the markup is, what you want to spend, and hopefully meet in the middle so the dealer can still make profitiable numbers and you get the discount that gives you the warm and fuzzys.
Personally, I much prefer to deal with Craigslist and cash. (or in my case, another T4R member!)
Davis sells Ferraris and a range of other high-end performance cars too, I wouldn't think they would even need to bother to roll back the mileage to move inventory. I'm sure they do fine without the < $9k 4Runners.
