eBay performance chips

So I was looking through eBAy today, and I kept seeing the "$22.99 Super Chip! Add 3-4 mpg and 25 HP!" Curiosity (and human nature) says that odds are one of you out there has bought one of these. My mechanic side says " NONSENSE!". But anyway, If any of you has, please share your input. I have played with the BullyDog on deisels and loved the results, but I sure am skeptical of these.

Ok that was funny. The add at the bottom of the page was for superchips. Well theyre not a scam cause I actually bought one out of curiosty too and They actually do work...horribly. In fact they cause more damage than they're worth. What they do is tie into you MAF sensor and disrupt the temp signal to you ecu. It tells it that the air coming in is about 30 degrees warmer. no since warm air carries more oxygen your ecu sends less fuel which in turn makes your engine run lean and can eventualy casue detonation. This goes to everyone who reads this. NEVER buy a "superchip" for your car ever. They arent a scam, theyre just pieces of sh*t that can harm your car.

Thanks for the insight, Matt. That is exactly what I was thinking this so called "Super Chip" would do. Running too lean is never a good thing. Like you said, detonation, increased head temps, etc.

Thanks for another educational link. Very informative. I am a little skeptical when he says he has noticed no difference in fuel economy after 6 weeks. I will try this mod. Then I am done. There appears to be no more mods, until you step up to a supercharger. I did find one on eBay yesterday with K&N, starting bid $500. Looked sound, 40,000 miles. That doesn't really bother me with 208,000 miles on my rig. By the time I wear it out, I'll need an overhaul. Too bad my wallet's running on low!
