Ebola

I'm sorry but I must disagree with you in regards to part of your statement. We do NOT have the world's best medical facilities, leaders and expertise. We may have adequate resources and money (don't let them fool you into thinking we're broke) but nothing ever gets accomplished. It's truly amazing that our country hasn't collapsed by now. They piss more money away every year than you could imagine. Are you aware there's a NASA program where there's a team of researchers that is studying how to reduce our "footprint" and impact on alien life?

The majority of our political leaders are incompetent or inexperienced. Not just now but has been for decades. Take your pick.

However I do agree that we will probably be hearing more about the NFL playoff picture than Ebola.

Then who has the "worlds best"?

Yes, they are inefficient to an extent.......but who isn't?......nothing new.

Some are Incompetent? Yes.......but again, nothing new.

How 'bout them Cowboys!!??

broncosi

can you explain more? I guess this didn't make the news because why

I'm stepping out of this conversation as it is taking a turn for the worse but I was informed from a nurse in NC that there was a case contracted from the one of the nurses on a flight. The person in NC contracted from being on the plan sitting within 3 ft of her.

Thanks for your input, I hadn't heard anything about infection in NC and hope your girlfriend's mother and boyfriend will be ok. I think the political ping pong is pretty much inevitable once a thread gets past more than a couple pages, but please post more when you know more.

You're wildly over dramatic born of the Fox womb.

It's a new "scary" virus in our country. A few mistakes were made that are or will be corrected before it becomes an "outbreak" here. Awareness is raised and plans are developed as a result of lessons learned. We have the worlds best medical facilities, resources, leaders and expertise. Within 8 weeks you'll be hearing more about the "developing NFL playoff picture" than you will Ebola.

Well im glad you're not worried. Makes me feel better. haha.

You must be one of the few who can afford our awesome healthcare system...

I cant afford the new regulated insurance costs of $800 a month and a $12000 annual deductible... yay for obamacare... sure hope i dont get ebola...

That sounds wrong. The CDC said that they've cleared everyone that was on that flight. Even the cruise ship person was cleared.

Why you should be skeptical of the news, especially the idiots over at ABC News.

Their article:

Why Rats, Mosquitoes and Water Don't Spread Ebola
Why Rats, Mosquitoes and Water Don't Spread Ebola - ABC News

Is full of misinformation.

Can Ebola Be Spread Through the Water Supply?

Ebola is not a water-borne disease, according to researchers at the Water Research Foundation. Therefore, it cannot spread through the water supply.

“Once in water, the host cell will take in water in an attempt to equalize the osmotic pressure, causing the cell to swell and burst, thus killing the virus,” the foundation noted in a statement.

Bodily fluids flushed by an infected person would not contaminate the water supply, the statement went on to say, because the virus is so fragile. Once separated from its host it is neutralized within minutes.

This is 100% without a doubt false. As written by both the CDC and US Army (the only other government entity that does research on level 4 viruses) the Ebola virus has been proven to be able to stay alive for over 5 days in a jar of tapwater. It isn't really up for debate ABC!

ABC cites the "Water Research Foundation" which sounds like a vauge political PAC that Stephen Colbert would make up.

Viruses are apolitical. They don't give a damn about re-election, politicians' humiliation, florid speeches full of hyperbole, or hope and change.

They like to grab useful genetic material and incorporate it into themselves to make themselves easier to spread so they make more nasty little viruses.

Sometimes they get lazy and forget how to rewrite themselves and make themselves less harmful, sometimes they get MUCH more virulent by finding ways to bypass our immune system whether by accident or by rapid evolution.

The fact that the CDC is now issuing N-95 masks in their protocols is concerning that they're not sure if people did inhale aerosolized viral particles from people with hemoptysis and hematemesis.

Oh, and the N-95 can't just be "thrown on," it needs to be fitted because they come in different sizes and people need take an hour class to figure out which size they are and how to properly wear one to make a seal.

CNN is reporting a new American case in NY.

Aren't doctors supposed to have their sh*t wired a little tighter than the average idiot? This jerkoff hit the subway, a bowling alley, and taxi with a 100.3F fever. Also reports of cops depositing contaminated waste into public trash cans.

I am also getting really tired of these officials saying they are conducting their searches 'out of an abundance of caution.'

It's one single doctor. Not "doctors". The person is isolated. There are no others. There are no dead.

Don't make it more than it is.

If you want to scare yourselves, go sit in Sloan Kettering for a few hours and you'll see things that will make you appreciate life a bit more.

Yeah, but its one single doctor that should have had the common sense and decency to isolate himself when he started showing symptoms. There are no others YET because of the incubation period. We aren't scaring ourselves, we are trying to stay informed and keep ahead of the general incompetence that seems overwhelmingly commonplace. If you don't share our concer, that's fine, but this is a thread for those of us who want to learn more and understand the risks involved.
