Eclipse AVN2210P to buy or not to buy..?

I contemplating about purchasing Eclipse AVN2210P navigation unit (the one was a standard on 2009 Urban Runner). Can anyone who has this unit and especially who installed it in older model 4Runner can share their experience? After searching the web I am getting impression that this unit had many issues and no support from manufactures.. I hope I am wrong.
Here are the things that I would like to know for sure:
1) Any wiring modifications required to work in 2005 SR5 4Runner (non jbl) or it is plug and play?
2) Will my steering audio control continue to work?
3) Where do you install antenna? What location antenna is installed in 2009 urban Runner?

1- I assume its plug and play since eclipse made both the AVN and the factory radio. It was PnP for my 2004 and the AVN5500 that I installed.

2- I also assume the steering wheel controls would still function the same as it has with my avn5500 install

3- gps antenna is located directly behind the radio in between the 2 duct split offs, i however stuck it on top of the dash in the center of the car to get a better reception and just pushed the wire into the windshield vent holes that line the bottom of the glass.

I'd avoid it. Too many guys have had too many complaints with that particular unit. Plus, Eclipse recently decided to exit the aftermarket audio market (for vehicles), so there might be an even bigger lack of support from them in the future. I also wonder how they'll handle map updates...

That what I was afraid of… Very sad that Toyota would use something like that and didn’t stand behind and help customers to resolve their problems…:whipping2

I have not seeing them that cheap … for $50 it maybe still tempting to get one and hope that you get a “good” one. :hiding:

I agree. I have an 09 Trail Edition that has the same unit. I also installed the optional iPod connector. Eclipse does not support the unit in the US (For some reason it is currently listed as an option on the British version of the Yaris (??). I tried to get the optional mount kit for the TomTom to use in another vehicle--no longer available--not even on ebay (last time I looked). The radio part is somewhat hard to use--small controls. The iPod controls are difficult--always goes back to the initial track on the music list, so you have to find the music you want. The best part is that it lets you sellect the playlist tracks fairly easily.
The nav system is adequate, but is only a 3.5" screeen and is centered in the dash. Other than being hard to see, it is an acceptable older unit. I haven't had a problem with using the nav system other than its display size. I also haven't updated the maps, but than can be done on-line through TomTom. It can be used outside the TE on battery power, however.
I thought it would be handy, but it has become a pain to use. I am replacing the setup soon with probably a pioneer audio system (no nav) and a portable 4.3" garmin mounted on a Proclip system angled toward the driver. I am using the Garmin with an dash pad--suction cups on the windshield are illegal in CA, and really don't want a reason to be stopped. Haven't actually done either yet, but will in the next few weeks.
