Eco light

Did a search on this to no avail. Anyone know if the eco light can be turned on or off? I assume it's something I would have to have the dealer do with their software. I have a '10 TE with the eco light in my dash, but it must be turned off because it doesn't ever light up.

Is there an easy way to keep Eco mode on while still being able to see your current odometer reading? I left mine in Eco for awhile, and next thing I know I went over my servicing mileage.
 
The Eco mode light will illuminate on the dash whenever Eco mode is "on", regardless of odometer display. If you are talking about watching the Eco meter on the odometer display and seeing the odometer reading at the same time, I think you have to 'pick your poison' at that point. However, I'm a bit perplexed at your going past your service mileage. Unless you are maintaining your own service schedule, there is a dash light that reminds you when you are coming up on your scheduled maintenance interval separate from odometer display.

Seriously? Did you even open the owners manual??? :rtfm:
 
Im assuming ECO is turned off, or you would be getting a dash light. When you cycle through the odo screens there should be one that say 'ECO OFF'. Hold the button down until is says 'ECO ON'. You will get a dash light when you aren't accelerating beyond its programed limits. Then you can sit on your actual odo display and watch the light go on and off.

Or you can be like me and turn that d*&$ thing off before you even drive away from the dealer :)

Why do all these 'used' 4R that people buy have NO manual? I doubt the original owners keeps it, given most people never even open it. Do they take it before they trade it in because they are not happy with the price they got? Do the dealers take them and have a bon fire with them? Inquiring minds want to know!

It's probably the ones with the 5,000 mile oil change intervals that go missing:)
My dealer has mentioned to me 3 times that he's gonna get me the "new" one...still haven't seen it.

Since we seem to be talking about owners manuals, I'll jump on the thread hijack momentarily and just remind that in addition to nashman's super manuals, you can also go on the Toyota Owner's site and look at every manual, training video, Toyota "literature", etc.

You will have to register, hopefully the VIN # isn't already registered to the first owner. I'm not sure how that works when you buy used, but you could give it a shot.

Thanks for the info, I was talking about the ecometer, not Eco mode. I didn't even know that mode was there, and now I have no clue why it's there! Most cars that have an Eco mode adjust the engine or tranny or something, while mine seems to just say "whoa, easy there. Lift your right foot or I'll turn this light off." I also got mine used with no manual and I can't explain it. Dealer said the guy who owned it had it at his moms house and he'll get it this weekend, yada yada. Had the dealer get one made for around $30.

Came in here just now seeing RED about that stupid little green "You're being a good boy, Johnny!" light and how to turn the blasted thing off...

Detail shop often doesn't get them back in vehicle after cleaning.
