Ecotechne roof rack GROUP BUY!!!

Just confirmed with Ecotechne and this will be the last batch at $750. They are shipping with FedEx to get us a better rate but they take way too long. I purchased the prototype which shipped out last Wednesday... it still hasn't crossed customs. They will continue to ship with DHL after the 8th batch which means the prices will rise significantly but once the racks are done the shipping only takes about 3 days. I hope this info helps everyone.

A little update on the tent. It's a little hard to mount the hard shell I got because it takes up the whole rack. I've been trying to be really creative and so far it's paying off. I love the low profile!!!!

Can you go into more detail about how you mounted the tent to the rack? I can't figure out how you could tighten the bolts. I am in group 7 (woot) and I am looking at the same style of RTT and would like to mount it flush like you did.

Make sure that its changing locations the next couple days. I got my tracking last week for a delivery on Tuesday the 16th and the location stayed the same and is still the same right now, no delivery. I guess they are having problems with Fedex, I emailed them to see what was up.

When I received my roof rack, I separated each piece from the box and from the wrap onto cardboard on flat plywood. I carefully cut the ends of the wrap to expose mounting points of each part. I then proceeded to mount each part as needed still wrapped. Then assembled the parts to the roof and removed more wrap as needed loosely assembling the rack (solo). I carefully removed the rest of the wrap as needed once it was loosely fully assembled. I was lucky that I had no powder coat missing, no scratches, no scrapes, no fade spots, It was just a little dusty on some places, and kind of filmy on the rack. I waited 48 hours for the silicone to cure that I used on the rooftop mounting brackets to cure after full assembly and adjusted to my liking. (I also used blankets on the roof too as needed during install.) I then took it to a brushless and no pad, Water spray carwash. First ran it through twice on the cheapest carwash, it took all the soot off the rack and the truck. Then ran it through the wax and polish cycle. It came out great. I take it once a week for the polish and wax cycle. So far it looks the same, great. Time will tell.

I picked up my rack today. I had it shipped to the local fedex office center. I got to be honest. I'm deeply disappointed in the packaging. In my opinion, they did not really protect the corners. Some of the powder coat is chipped at the edges, interior and exterior facing pieces as well.

I suppose this was a risk I knew about. Should I touch it up? What's the best way to remediate?

Mine arrived today. Here's my quick unboxing summary:

Packaging was sufficient, had a little damage to the corner of one of my extra trays. Nothing I can't fix. A few minor scuffs here and there, but overall, not bad. I can touch these parts up. Quality seems very good, not excellent, but very good. Nothing appears abnormal with the holes and mounting brackets. I'll know better about the overall quality as I start to assemble and mount.

I'm happy with the parts, packaging and powder coating. Did I expect some minor flaws in the finish and potential shipping damage? Yes. Did I consider this for the price point? Yes. Would I order another one? Yes. I'll probably have to spend an hour of my time fixing the bent corner of my extra tray and touch up some powder coating...no big deal.

If my schedule frees up by next weekend, I'll hopefully get this assembled and mounted. I'll post pics and a final review.
