ECT Switch for Lightbar?

Found this switch and I'm wondering if anyone has used it for a lightbar... I see people use defrosters and the rear "hi/low" switch. I've got the harness and about 6" of the OEM wire; black/orange, 2 green (one with red) and a white.

I've search multiple forum and don't see anything about it.

I used it to trigger the power antenna up/down before I switched to a taco whip. You just have to figure out which terminal to out power to and which one gets power when the switch is in.

Make sure to use a harness with a relay though, do not try to power the lightbar directly through the switch.

Thank you sir... And a big a-firm on the relay. That's already run, just want a clean OEM look.

I figured there's a hot, ground, to relay and to the dash... Is there anyone with a diagram out there?

Well, here is how it is wired on a 2002:

ECT switch is plug C23 on top left of p. 128. It takes power off the Gauge fuse, which is a good key-on source--if that is what you want, and applies it to the PWR terminal when closed. Colors don't match the pic, so it must be a different year. Also plug C23 is a ten-wire plug, so there is more going on there.

So yeah, it should be usable, but I'd need a year to match the wire colors and switch circuitry.

I've been thinking about how to use a factory OEM switch for any auxiliary item I intend to install...

If I understand correctly, you won't be using all the wires for most switches if you intend to use them to trigger a light for example...?

I use these switches for my lights. They're like $10 from Toyota. They are just spade connectors on the back so they're really easy to hook up and they fit perfectly in the blank dash spots over there.

I wish I had some addition spots but all my blanks are used!

Seat heaters, RR DIFF switch, and a side mirror control for when I invest in a winch....

I am working on replicating Brillants center console arm rest thing that allows him to have a factory look for switches in that little cubby that just accumulates rubbish....

Also got an additional radio bezel to attempt cutting up to add some more switch blanks where the DC power outlets are... I never use those!!!!!

If you have a multi-meter you can figure out which wires are which pretty quickly.

There's going to be a ground and input power for the backlight, and then two wires for the actual switch contacts.

Set the meter to read ohms, and find the two that are a dead short (0 ohms) when the switch is in the ON position. The other two wires will be the bulb and you should read some resistance through them probably upwards of 150 Ohms.

I'd guess that the white/green is the ground for the backlight.

If for example you just do a trial by error install, can you mess up the switch by connecting the wrong wires? Or will it simply just not work until you connect it properly ?

The switch has 4 prongs... I just want it to work the light bar and light up with the dash. Gunna try that relabeling from the ih8mud thread.

Yeah, the connectors will work the same as the wiring harness.

As far as just hooking it up by trial and error, I'd advise against that. If you hook the illumination power and ground to the wrong set of terminals you're going to blow the fuse as soon as you turn the switch on.

Even a cheap multi-meter will do the job here, and you can get them for less than $20.

Got frustrated... Went to the junk yard and got every switch I could find!

2-hazard
1-ECT

Found a diagram for the defroster...

Two more wire for + & - for illum... That I'll hook up later.

If there's anyone who'd like the hazards and ECT, I just want what I'm into them.
