ECU Doesn't Recognize 4wd LO

I have searched and searched looking for the answer and maybe I am just not searching the right keywords but here is my issue. Vehicle goes into 4 high and 4 lo just fine, no issues there. Where I am getting an issue is when I put it into 4Lo, the computer doesn't seem to read it. Maybe 1/100 times it will actually recognize that I am in 4lo and enable the A-Trac, rear locker, crawl control etc and dash light. I currently have a switch wired so I can enable it myself when in 4Lo but I would like to avoid that if possible. Is this something one of you have ran into and fixed or just me like most of the problems I run into, heh.


Just to recap, put it into 4lo and it goes into it and it feels like 4lo but computer does not recognize it and won't allow me to use a-trac, rear locker, crawl control, etc.

Any info would be great, thanks. Also, this is for a '13 Trail so manual level.

If I had to guess, the 4LO sensor switch (or wiring to it) in the transfer case. Unfortunately, I think you need to drop the transfer case to get to it, as it is between the top of the case and the body.

This is pretty much what I had concluded and did some digging around and it seems like a pretty expensive fix, mainly because of dropping the case and such. I was really hoping there is just bad contact on something and it was causing it to short/no continuity and I could just sand/clean it and call it good, heh. Thanks for the reply.

There was a guy here a while back with the same issue and he was able to replace the sensor without dropping the t-case. If you search hard enough you may be able to find it. His problem may have been the 4wd sensor and not the reduction gear sensor...I can't remember for sure.
 
Just a thought that doesn't cost you anything. Disconnect battery overnight to see if the computer resets. Did it start acting up after a battery replacement? Is your battery original?

I will go ahead and try that out this weekend but nope, it just randomly happened. Put it into 4Lo and nada, 4Lo on the dash didn't light up and wasn't able to use anything. Guess doing some investigation will enable me to pull out my locking module too since that thing takes ages to lock now too, heh.
 
I remember the thread Wfo9 is talking about. I think it had pictures and or a drawing of the area.
