Ecu problem?

I have a 87 4runner that drives ok without the tps sensor, but once it is plugged in it will rev to 3,000rpm and cut out, not die but will not rev higher. ive tried 2 other tps sensors, 1 is new and one is a auto wrecker sensor. there arent any obvious cracks in the connector or wires. My mechanics are stumped and seem to think it may be the ecu.

any ideas?

I had a problem with something like that when the vacuum tubes to one of the sensors on top of the valve cover were connected backwards. Any time I would apply the brakes, my engine would rev to 3000, then almost stall, then repeat until I let off the breaks.
