What is the Jeep doing so high on the list as well? It has very little ground clearance and is definitely not the vehicle I want to be in when going on complicated courses. I remember the footage from car and driver where the undercarriage was almost ripped apart. As for the Kia Sorento, that is an offroading beast!! I'm not a fan of the Xterra, but that should definitely be higher than #8. I sometimes wonder who is wriiting the car articles out there.

Exactly. Not to long ago, i had a debate with Karl, editor-in-chief for Edmunds, regarding FJ Cruiser vs. Rubicon. Let's just say that i was not impress with the exchange. However, he was nice to debate with. They are afterall editors and have little off-roading experience.

What a fluff piece. I can see the pitch for the story now;

(PC Newbie): Pitch piece for the nationals? Whatever do you mean? I would think that we would rather establish a means by which to compare vehicles in an objective format and thus let the scores speak for themselves.

I too, can NOT believe the KIA Sorento makes this list while the Toyota 4 Runner misses it...........hmmmmmm!

The 4Runner gets left out of a lot of these kind of things. Even Car and Driver downgraded it's offroad performance because of a hood scoop that blocked the view when cresting a steep climb, and rated other less capable vehicles ahead of it. They claimed they were testing SUV's but they were really testing parking lot queens. If no one tells them the 4Runner is a good vehicle, they will never know.:bash:

Here's my personal favorite. According to Edmunds, the Kia Sorrento comes equiped with "sufficiently meaty tires". Tire Rack says the stock tires are either the Hanook RA07s (not meaty), Kumho 798s (still not meaty) and Michelin Cross Terrains (better, but still not exactly meaty).
