Regardless of the things I did and didn't like in the list,...What the hell was the Kia doing in there????

Same thing I was thinking

And of course the Japanese models are at the back of the pack...

The dumbest collection of words and numbers I have even seen at Edmunds. I'm surprised the author could form complete sentences.

What is the Jeep doing so high on the list as well? It has very little ground clearance and is definitely not the vehicle I want to be in when going on complicated courses. I remember the footage from car and driver where the undercarriage was almost ripped apart. As for the Kia Sorento, that is an offroading beast!! I'm not a fan of the Xterra, but that should definitely be higher than #8. I sometimes wonder who is wriiting the car articles out there.

Cherokee before Wrangler = instant loss of credibility.

Exactly. Not to long ago, i had a debate with Karl, editor-in-chief for Edmunds, regarding FJ Cruiser vs. Rubicon. Let's just say that i was not impress with the exchange. However, he was nice to debate with. They are afterall editors and have little off-roading experience.

What a fluff piece. I can see the pitch for the story now;

(Joe Bob): See, we need to do a pitch piece for the nationals. Yeaha, something brawny and muscular, you know, top 10 something or other.

(PC Newbie): Pitch piece for the nationals? Whatever do you mean? I would think that we would rather establish a means by which to compare vehicles in an objective format and thus let the scores speak for themselves.

***Laughter in room***

(Editor): PC Newbie, just listen and learn, just listen and learn. I get ya Joe Bob. How about a Top 10 mixed list with the nationals at the top having to do with best equipped for offroading. Throw in a little, "we wanna help our readers out" spin.

***PC Newbie is called into Editor's Office***

(Editor): Now you just mind your mouth next time and remember who pays your check...

I too, can NOT believe the KIA Sorento makes this list while the Toyota 4 Runner misses it...........hmmmmmm!

Sounds like some anti foreign import sentiment going on here. Jealousy, jealousy, jealousy!!
:o

The 4Runner gets left out of a lot of these kind of things. Even Car and Driver downgraded it's offroad performance because of a hood scoop that blocked the view when cresting a steep climb, and rated other less capable vehicles ahead of it. They claimed they were testing SUV's but they were really testing parking lot queens. If no one tells them the 4Runner is a good vehicle, they will never know.:bash:

What were they smoking when they wrote that article? Are all their other reports on cars this far off into space? If that's the case, then, it's back to Mad magazine.

Here's my personal favorite. According to Edmunds, the Kia Sorrento comes equiped with "sufficiently meaty tires". Tire Rack says the stock tires are either the Hanook RA07s (not meaty), Kumho 798s (still not meaty) and Michelin Cross Terrains (better, but still not exactly meaty).

These guys get paid to talk about the latest and greatest...at this point the current 4Runner is "old news"...wait until the car-based next generation 4Runner comes out...they'll be all over it!!! :-)

Cheers

 (I have no words to express how I feel right now...well except these)

You guys should know better by now not to take Edmunds word on anything to do with automotive topics.

Its like asking Gordon Ramsey what he thinks of my interior decor.
