Electric Issues?

I have a 3rd gen 1999 4runner and sometimes the windows in it will just not roll up. So I have to wait like 15 minutes I guess so it can build up enough juice so it will push the window up. Does anyone know why that would be happening and if I will need a new window motor or anything.

Electric motors don't need to build up juice. They either work or don't work.

Does the change happen after moving for 15 minutes or while sitting still? Maybe window track has an issue that vibration while driving helps.

Maybe motor is the culprit and is overheating and it takes 15 mins to cool down.


Either way it's probably either a worn out motor or an issue with the linkages or track. I'm sure someone will come along with better advice and how to test it. These are just my thoughts.

Mine sort of does the same thing. The. Neutral position is wore out so if you roll down the window and it sticks in the down position it gets hot. Then when you go to power it up, you have to then put the switch back in the neutral position, let it cool down, and it will work fine.

It is the back right side passenger window

What happens is when im driving and i have like my brother in the back he rolls down the back right window. And when we go to roll it up it just wont, so we just drive and we get home after like 15 minutes and it will roll up fine so i dont know what it is.

I assume the same thing happens with the driver's door switch and the rear door switch? If so, your thread title is almost certainly wrong. The master and local circuits are separate up to the last connection. Your problem is mechanical, or, if electrical, in the motor itself. Time to open up that door.

Ahh, but we need more info!

He says the window won't roll up, but will it still roll down? Assuming it wasn't all the way down.

Opening up the door would be fine, more important will be to duplicate the failure long enough to find a solution. And I have a question too! What is the purpose of the diode connecting to the back window circuit? And why only the RR door window?

Had this exact same scenario happen on my mother's '98 Sienna. The window would roll down just fine, but sometimes would not roll up. It might not roll up at all, or it might partially roll up and then stop. You could wait 15 minutes or so, and then the window would continue to roll up.

Replacing the window motor fixed the issue.
