Electric seats a gimmick?

Run by an electric motor…? Now you are just arguing design as a majority industry standard. Yes, there are some model vehicles that have a handle to adjust the seat height, but that is a moot point. Sounds like you simply just don't like electric seats to me…:shrug: Electric seats and leather are luxury options if you want them, fortunately for you they are not standard equipment. But seriously, you sound like you simply are just against electric seats as a general rule--not sure why--but you are certainly entitled to your opinion. As for me, I enjoy electric seats. I like having more adjustability(height, front to back, back rest angle). If i had leather I would really enjoy heated seats. I used to have a chevy with leather and heated seats and LOVED them. Again, leather isn't for everyone; nor are electric seats. Cough Cough.:becky: *Correction* Also, one more point of interest, Toyota did offer leather in the 3rd gens without power seats. Again a rare option, but it was possible to order SR5 models with leather, without electric tracks. Sorry to keep raining on your comments, constructive criticism here only. No worries man, I have thick skin. I'm relatively new to Toyota (first rig last Oct) and it shows lol. In researching for a rig I only looked into the 3.5 gen (99+) models so I'm not familiar with the options of the earlier years.

Yeah I guess I am against them. I just felt stupid the other day wanting to recline back for a power nap and it took 10 minutes (obvious exaggeration) to get there. And sitting up without my back against it took just as long. I really never adjust the distance between myself and the steering wheel. But I do like the ability to modify the seat tilt. And really wish I had heat!!

As far as manual seats go I've never been in the position where one setting was too far and the other was too close. There always seemed to be enough options to find a comfortable position.

All things considered though I might keep my eyes peeled for one of these older gens manual leather seats that I didn't know existed. That AND see about finding a pair of the OEM switches and putting some aftermarket heaters in.

Correction, they do have a heated seat option...REALLY rare, but the 3rd gens did have it. Sorry to pick apart the post, just felt after reading it like I needed to add this or die from holding it in. Lol

My 2002 Limited has leather, electric, heated seats and they were a joy with the cold temps this winter. I agree with the ease of adjustments provided by the electric controls also.

You could order manual leather seats in SR5's from 96 to 02. I think that you could buy the seat frames from an SR5 and swap your current leather cushions onto that frame. I am not 100% sure, so you may want to start comparing part numbers before you do anything. Even still, the cushions between the electrics and manuals look identical.

The OEM heaters do not even have multiple settings on them from what I can see, just on/off. Aftermarket is a much better option.

You are correct, just on/off option. Kind of silly there aren't more settings, but hey...still love my Yota. Wishing I had some leather seats in my sport buckets with heat! That would be LEGIT!!!!

I agree that the 2000-02 heater switches were an afterthought insofar as where the switches are located. However, that may be better than on the outboard side of the seats where the driver can't access the passenger seat control. I installed Innovative seat heaters in mine for $90/side and couldn't be more satisfied. Only two wires to hook up: black ground and red hot (used an add-a-circuit) hooked to a 10amp switched circuit in the cabin fuse box. The switches are hi/lo/off. Takes about 3 minutes to get toasty!

I had electric seats in my 1975 Chevy, not sure why people are talking about their Audis!
