Electric Steering Wheel Lock?

Just wondering if anyone had any info on our steering wheel lock? I am looking at adding a Push to Start button and will need to disable the steering wheel lock.

Most people just turn a cut off key to the on position to disable the lock but I'm not too fond of that idea. I could just remove it all together but If it is electric I could just wire up a momentary bypass for when I am in the truck. I have also thought of trying to use a servo to actuate it if it is mechanical.

Basically I just want to see if anyone has any info/suggestions.

Thanks!

The steering wheel lock is purely mechanical. You can disable by removing the locking rod all together.

To replace with a solenoid might be dangerous. If you have the solidnoid lock under power, it would drain the battery and if you have it unlock under power, if a fuse blew or you lost electrical power while driving, the steering wheel will lock up causing you to crash and burn.
