Electrical issue? Or????

Three mechanics, two sensors (TPS, knock sensor), one wiring loom (knock sensor), and those two sensors were replaced twice. Lots of $$$$$$ so far. Please help!

Problems:
- check engine light on
- code 52 (knock)
- code 41 (TPS)

Trans: confused! Won't shift down when peddle push to the floor, on the freeway the trans won't shift into overdrive (at 4-5k on freeway). Rapid shifts on cruse control, Shifted into first on freeway, thank you rev limiter. Can shift it manually just fine, except OD (which is electronic button on shifter)

Engine: sluggish, bogged down, lots of fuel consumption!!, rough idle (dies at stops), when cold and throttle at 5% there is a dead spot that kills the engine, no pinging, surges at idle.

Brakes: say I am coming off the freeway on the offramp, as your coming up to the intersection you start with slight pressure then slowly push the brakes on when you get down to 30-35 mph the 4r pushes back pushed up the peddle then slamming on the brakes with no input from me. Locking up only the front wheels.

Stock alarm and keyless entry: The alarm will go off with no provocation. I was even driving down the road and the doors locked and the alarm went off.

I don't know if they are all connected in some way, but please someone help! The Japanese specialist had 7 4runners in there for the knock sensor, wow Toyota needs to do something about that!

Locking up only the front wheels. All of the above may be related to a vacuum leak. Given it's 3.0L V6 don't rule out the headgaskets. Check the brake booster a possible source for the leak too.

Also check the adjustment/functionality of the rear proportioning valve. Obviously check the normal stuff too, rear brake pistons, calipers for stuck pistons etc.

Stock alarm and keyless entry: The alarm will go off with no provocation. I was even driving down the road and the doors locked and the alarm went off. Look for power source interruptions. Start with battery cables and grounds. Also make sure the ECM, body grounds, dash grounds etc are good.

Is this a clean vehicle or is it rusty? Any known accidents?

No rust at all, very clean, almost perfect body, no accidents reported or that I know of

That's good news and adds to the it's "worth it" factor. Pursue the things I mentioned above and see if it gets you headed in the right direction.

Only when it's cold, the engine dies at dead spot in throttle. Turn key and nothing happened. Everything I can see was flickering like there was a electrical short on everything. Starter acted like solenoid went bad but no click or anything. If you hold the key to start after long delay the car cranked over for 30 sec, then started, ran bad gave it some accelerator and cleared up. After starts just fine. If it sits for a day, symptoms are even more severe. I am at a loss

Oh you said try the things I said above, but you didn't say anything to try

Gotta keep in mind this isn't new anymore... Pull the EFI fuse out for a min or so and clear the stored codes in the ECU... See if the shifting prob continues or gets better.

Trans: Check your mechanical downshift cable from the TB, as for the no OD... Speed sensors, shift solenoids (the OD light should flash codes though). Cruise is horrible on these trucks, its to gutless for it IMHO

Engine: everything you mentioned is normal, except the dead spot (TPS) and rough idle (IACV, TB, Vac leak)

Brakes: Check them and everything related to them... (Brake booster, etc...)

As for the alarm system... that sucks!

The Knock Sensor is under the intake plenum...

If you missed it look at the "quote" section of my reply, I inserted blue, bold text there (as I often do).

Based on your further description get the battery, battery cables, grounds, main wire on the back of the alternator checked. All that is very much in line with my orig suggestion but I am even more convinced now...

Good luck!

Vacuum leak, under intake and electrical short in the light on the door caused all the problems! thanks for the help!!!

Ok I must be blind, all I see is my text in the quote, nothing added. I get what you are saying.
