I bought my '08 Ltd V8 recently, and financed it from Toyota with a factory warranty to cover it to 100K miles (another 40K from now).
I am planning to install a 12 volt socket and two USB ports into all 4 door panels--just beneath the window controls (though I haven't figured out where I'll put on the driver's door where that space is taken up by all the window controls). They'll all be done on separate fuses and probably even run on a separate line so I don't overload the system.
I'm also planning to install an AC socket under the glovebox for an iPad that will be mounted to a JoyFactory gooseneck Valet Seat Bolt Mount. And probably will add one or two AC sockets under the driver and passenger seats for rear passengers.
At some point, I may also install a second battery--probably before adding the AC sockets, I would guess.
So the question is...will any of this kill my factory warranty? I have zero mechanical skill (but friends fully and professionally capable of helping me out with these installs), so I don't want to do anything that will void the warranty--especially since I paid a good couple thousand for it.
Am I better off having a Toyota dealer do all the installs for me to make sure the warranty isn't invalidated? Not sure they'll do custom work like this anyway though, and certainly wouldn't prefer this option--at well over $120 an hour, it's too expensive to go through the dealer.
