Electrical or Keyless Entry Problem?

My keyless entry has finally given up the ghost. It had been dying for a while prior to this point - I was having to get closer & closer to the truck for it to work, and, even when I was right next to it, I would have to hit the button several times. (Also, for what it's worth, when it did work the side headlight on the passenger side sometimes didn't flash when I locked or unlocked the doors.) I replaced the key fob battery, & it appears to be sending a signal, but still no response.

Based on the headlight issue and the fact that all of the buttons failed at the same time, my first thought was a problem with the electrical system, but based on other posts, I'm wondering if it may be a problem with the remote itself (needing to be reprogrammed maybe)....

I appreciate any insight anyone can provide.

Have you tried the reprogramming procedure yet?

Not yet. Given my lack of experience working on modern cars, I was concerned that messing with computer stuff could do more harm than good, but, looking over the instructions provided in other posts, it sounds relatively straightforward. I'll give it a roll....

You cant mess anything up. The procedure will either work or it wont. But it often doesnt work the first try. The more familiar you get with the procedure, the better the chance it will work. I would give it a try though. When i got my 3rd gen, one remote would only lock and the other wouldnt do anything. Both were sending signals from all buttons. Once i got the procedure to work (took several tries), i got both working just fine. I did replace batteries before reprogramming.
