elocker balancing act

so swapped in an elocker 3 weeks ago and have not driven much above 65. The other day I was on the freeway ( rare for me) and had it up to 75 and a vibration came on that I could feel in the steering wheel. So I went and had my KO'2s rebalanced. ( Costco) No difference. So then I thought maybe its ITRE's or upper ball joints ( only thing I did not do last year)then went to a shop I trust for alignments etc and had them throw it in the air, no suspension issues. But my sway bar bushings are pretty squished/cracking

Could it be that I need to rotate my drive shaft where it mounts to the pinion ? Ive read about that. And if so, I know its 4 bolts, does that mean I have to try it 3 more different times or do those 4 only line up 2 ways.?

where I live and work it is difficult to get up to speeds above 65, ( twisty 2 lane mountain roads) so I would not really know until I could get to a freeway.

no leaks or no movement at pinon seal or bearing, I have no idea what the miles or year the elocker came out of. It is correctly geared. we used my axles so its not like I picked up a entire rearend that had a bent axle

I'm new to 4Runners but am fighting vibrations after a lift and 285s, including installing a new driveshaft.

I don't see how the phase of the driveshaft would make much difference here since both ends have flanges so the yokes wouldn't move relative to each other (but please correct me if I'm wrong). Is the pilot on the driveshaft flange smaller than the pilot on the pinion flange?

Did you change anything else besides the rear axle? I'm starting to think my problem is wheels and tires.
 
When you removed the rear driveshaft, did you pull the two halves apart? If so, you probably have them incorrectly aligned. Look for the driveshaft greasing guide to see how they should align (all but 1 is in line down the driveshaft).

I have never made match marks when removing the driveshaft (to the pinion and drive flange), and as long as you keep it in 1 piece, that shouldn't cause any vibrations when you reinstall. Oh, and make sure the double-cardan joint (the dual u-joint) is on the transfer case output side.

Did you disconnect the DS on the TC side? If not it should still be in the same position & not the cause of the problem. Try greasing all of the zerks.

I only disconnected the diff side & rested it on a block of wood so it wouldnt rust in the grass.

Unfortunately on these trucks vibrations can come from many places.

no they did not come apart

no, only unbolted form the pinion flange

true vibrations can come from anyplace and prob just a coincidence that I noticed it shortly after my elocker swap

cant imagine that tired sway bar links could cause it, that is one thing we noticed was that the links are getting pretty squished and cracking, even the back ones, mostly all original with 178k on them.


that or Costco did a crappy job balancing, that's where I bought my tires, so balance is free

Driveshaft (or pinion bearing, or TC output bearing) vibration will be a VIBRATION, not a shake (like tire balance would be). Like your phone vibrator turned up to 11 and put inside your head.

Check for play in the pinion bearing, since that can also cause problems.

If the propeller shaft is causing the vibration, perhaps it must have lost the balancing plate. am sure a reputable shop can have it balanced.
