I have a 2001 4 Runner 2 wheel drive that kicked this code. It has actually been going on for a year or so. I was able to reset it last year for inspection but this year it keeps coming back and I need an inspection. Last year after resetting the code I drove 400 miles with no problem. This year I was only able to get about 40 miles. Here's what I have done so far.
Replaced the gas cap with a Toyota one
Replaced the charcoal canister with a new VSV
Inspected the vacuum lines
dropped the gas tank to look for anything out of the ordinary
I have a mechanic friend that brought over his smoke machine and we found no leaks.
Visually inspected the fuel filler pipe.
I smell raw fuel when I get out after driving to work etc, the smell is around the tank area towards the rear wheel.
I have searched this forum and haven'e found much.
Has anyone else run into this problem? I usually can figure stuff like this out pretty quick but this one has me stumped.
There is a tank pressure switch on top of the tank does that have anything to do with this problem?
