Endless repairs !!

Is this just a steering rack oil seal that has burst ? What do I need to do to stop the leak ? I'm sure many of you have been here with this one ! Thanks.

I had oil pouring out of mine. I just got that thick, "leak stopping" steering fluid and it hasn't drained a noticeable amount in the last month. I cleaned all the oil and grease off when I added it and its still clean. Its a cheap option that may be worth a try.

Was yours leaking from the same place ? That black rubber thingy ?

It has been exceptionally hot here recently, so I am wondering if the heat has anything to do with it leaking ? It was 35c here today I think.

Nothing seems split or any old cracked rubber !

I will check into the thicker leak stop fluid you mention as a cheap option, always up for that !

Yeah it was leaking from there on mine. Its usually around 110-120 here which sped up the leak, but I've had it for a while. Its been holding up fine. I got the Lucas stop leak fluid and its been working great. It even tightened up the steering and theres no play in it now for me. We'll see if it lasts, I'm a month into it.

Mine has minor seeping there for at least the last 3 years.

When I researched this over a year ago, I believe just the seal is replaceable with a National 710412, but I haven't removed my steering rack to see if that's true or how to do it.

When the leak was at its worse, I only had to do a minor top up maybe every 6 months, which is hardly inconvenient enough to remove the steering rack to investigate. Strangely my fluid levels haven't dropped in the last year ever since I flushed all the power steering fluid. Maybe it fixed itself.

It might be worth it to get a new steering rack considering how old it is.

A new rack isn't hard to replace or very expensive. Oh and that's not oil you see its your truck crying for some attention to get cleaned every once in a while:hiding:

Thanks for the replies guys, I just find it draining to have to keep throwing cash at my old girl ! However she has been running great for the last 6 months or more, just been putting in gas and enjoying.
I have a whining diff too that has now begun to weep oil from the third member !
I might rename her the Titanic, she's going down just a matter of time !
