Engine and drivetrain from an LN61 into an YN60 chassis

Hey guys,

I have an opportunity coming up to get a hold of a 85' YN60 4Runner. Of course, being an 85' its a live axle chassis. i currently have a 86' IFS LN61, the engine is superb and i wouldn't ever give up my diesel for a petrol.

so the question im asking is... Can my engine and all the other diesel components be put onto a YN60 chassis? i understand they would have different cross members for the engine but can my LN61 cross member bolt straight up onto the YN60 chassis? another question is can the petrol's power steering system be adapted to the diesel engine? and the petrols air-con?

You're going to have trouble with the oil pans. The IFS oil pans are shaped different and rarely clear the solid axle. We didn't get the diesels over in the States so I don't know, did your diesel motor ever come in a straight axle truck? If so, you should be able to bolt up an oil pan and oil pump pickup from that motor onto your current motor. You might need to fiddle a new dipstick tube, depending on it's location.

You'll keep the AC and power steering pump from your old motor. The fittings on the firewall should be identical, but depending on the diesel motor you might need to fiddle the switches and wiring a little. The solid axle has different steering than your current IFS, you can keep your IFS steering box too and convert to crossover steering, or you can keep the stock solid axle steering and use the stock steering box for the '85. Either way, the fittings should be the same between the IFS steering box and the solid axle push-pull box so your old hoses from the PS pump will work fine.

My current LN61 doesn't have power steering or air conditioning which i've able to live with, i was thinking if i could get the petrol power steering and air-con to work on my diesel, i'd at least gain something since i have them. They made a LN60 here which is my engine in a solid axle chassis, they're just really hard to find, especially cheap here ill have a look at the sump situation and see how i'd go with that as well, thanks
