Engine bay splashguard replacement

My 04's splashguards between the front tires and the engine bay have fallen apart, not much left there. I'd let it go for more airflow, however too much spray is making a mess in the bay.

Is this strictly a dealer item, any ideas?

Is this reasonably easy to replace myself ?

have you looked into salvage yards? it's a lot cheaper than the dealer, that is, if it comes down to using the dealer. maybe even ebay?
 
I just bought one from the dealer. It was my front left one. It cost ~36 + ~ 2.50 for each snap i needed. But very very ez to install. :peace:

Wow that's a great price! Someone hit and run my bumper in a parking lot, and mine is pretty chewed up. The bumper is fixed, so I'm going to have consider this buy myself! Thanks for the info

Stop the presses! ...can you tell me how/where to contact your dealer? Mine wants $100 for each side!! :rant:

the dealer I used was in Conroe Texas. It was just for one. There are 2 on each side. Sorry it took so long to reply... Been mia for awhile.

I 'think' this is who I ended up using, via suggestions from here:

It was easy enough to look up on their parts lists.

I noticed one of the plastic retainers came loose recently, popped it back in, but prob need to ziptie it for sure.
 
This same thing happened to mine, they just became brittle and fell apart! I've been considering other options for protecting this area... Maybe that industrial plastic they use between the frame and bed on trucks with body lift to cover up that "up the skirt" look. I haven't done this yet, but it seems more durable and cost effective.
 
same issue on my 03, I wonder if some roofing materials would work? I Looked up roofing on Lowes website, found a 3ft X 36ft sheet of material under roll roofing that cost about $42, might be able to cut exact pieces needed and simply drill the holes where needed for mounting?
 
Yea some kind of roofing material could prob work too, I didn't think about that stuff. I'll check out some options and keep everyone posted on what I decide to go with.
 
This may sound weird. But I cut the side out of a rubermaid trash can to the shape I needed and riveted it in place. $10 for the trash can at walmart.

Ha, yea see that's the ingenuity that I'm talking about!! Thinking outside the box!... Or can in this case.
 
Toyota OEm parts numbers

I just replaced mine and here are the parts numbers --

Pretty sure that the parts are the same for all 4th gen 4Runners, v8, v6, 4x4, 4x2. Of course, verify first before purchase since my parts search was for a v8 limited 4x4. The rear shields are the same part number for both sides, but the fronts are different. You will need parts # 8, 9 and 10 (remember, there are 5 clips per shield) on that page, then go and buy from your own dealership or favorite online store.

Some of the members' suggestions here for a DIY solution were really good since the prices for a piece of rubber and some plastic clips seem high, but for me they are pretty specialized parts and worth the money over the time I would spend making my own. Plus, I really like the peace of mind I get from having OEM Toyota parts on my rig.

I replaced mine using the bottom part (rubber) of an old welcome mat that had carpet-like material on top. Just separate the carpet from the rubber, and use the rubber. You could also use any kind of cargo mat.
 
I bought a set from someone on here quite a while ago. IIRC they were made from roofing material and are holding up great and take a beating. There's also a template floating around here somewhere. Search and you'll find the thread/s.

Also, don't use those pop in plastic clips, they're junk. Use nuts and bolts with fender washers to keep them in place.
 
I got mine from Rad Rubber Design and have been very pleased. They're much thicker than the OEM ones, and have held up to everything.
