Engine Cleaning

just got back from my cabin and took it off roadin and got the engine reallt muddy.

when cleanig my engine i plan on using just a regular hose.. what should i not get wet?..i have a set of hellas installed should i not get the relay wet to ?

Most say battery, alternator and distributor cap along with any electrical connections.

Me, I just spray it down with the garden hose (no pressure washer use in the engine bay). But I haven't had caked on mud. I would recommend spraying and don't use a high pressure stream, as you don't want to force water into places it shouldn't be.

First off, i maybe stupid. This is what i did. Don't do this unless you're a man to do so. I took my t4r early in the morning to the car wash area (1.5 mile away from my house). Sprayed "Gunk" Engine Cleaner all over and under the engine except on the radiator, battery, and fenders. Awaited 15 mins to let soak. THEN, i hosed down the sh*t out of my engine as if i was i fireman putting out some fire or something. After that, i turned on my engine for about 10 mins. Then i towelled down and wiped every inch (as far as my fingers could reach) of my engine bay. And i used Meguiars to detail EVERYTHING made of rubber and plastic. Until now no probs....

If you haven't had any problems yet, then it's doubtful that any will show up.

Here are some tips that is effective:

* Do not wash sludge, oil, or grease into a storm drain or sewer system.
* Using hot water will clean much more effectively. For very dirty engines, take the vehicle to a mechanic's shop and have the engine steam cleaned.
