Engine Cover

Does anyone know where I can buy an engine cover (like the one the new Wrangler has) to quiet down the engine sound? If no company is selling this product is there anyone on here who has made such an item and is interested in selling one? Or maybe even a group buy?

I'd look into something like dynamat but made to stand up to heat and chemical exposure, and treat the underside of the hood and firewall with it. You won't find an engine cover like that unless your engine was factory equipped with one, it's just not something the aftermarket is developing, for ANY engine.

Here's an idea. BMW 7-series hood insulation is amazing stuff, including the aftermarket. Buy one of these:

1985 735i hood insulation

and cut pieces from on top of where the emissions labels go to fill in that hole. Or get two and do an awesome job and put leftovers on the firewall. This stuff is peel and stick and really kills motor noise. Trust me, it really sticks, too. The original stuff lasted about 15 years for most folks on the E23 boards.

I haven't done this--but I might.

Buy matting for the inside of the hood. Personally I hate engine covers. If I open the hood I want to see the engine, not a plastic cover! If I buy a car with an engine cover it will go in the trash the day I bring it home.

That is why ya pay a little more for the Lexus than the Toyota. You get an engine cover. And a little more. Not for me though. My engine is quite enough.

There is a guy at work here who has a custom Impala who used dynamat all in the inner firewall and told me it cut his sound down close to 20db. He did take out the who dash. He wife has very acute hearing, so she hated to ride in it before he put it in. The weight added close to 25lbs to the Impala.
