OK.. Help Please. My 1997 4r starts fine in the morning, after driving, the idle shoots up to 1000 to 2000, while stopped. when I drive it is normal. If I shut it off, it takes me 5-8 cranks to start it. My mechanic said it was the comp. so I replaced it, $330 reconditioned. ran fine for a week, and it it doing it again. Please help... I also noticed if I put it in Park or Neutral it idles up also.

I recently went through a very very similar issue. It was idling high randomly and car had trouble starting. Turns out I had a gunked up Idle Air Control (IAC) Valve.
I replaced it and the start issues went away.... however, I now have a consistent high idling issue. Any thoughts on this anyone?
