I have a 95 4runner, and it starts, and idles fine, both while cold and warm. On the way to work I smelled fuel, but couldn't stop and check... On the way home from work, no more smell... but now everytime I press the gas it dies out, but doesn't stall. I can get the RPMs in neutral to around 2 grand, but anything higher, it dies back down. When I let off the gas, it idles fine. If I really stomp on the gas it bogs way down, and thier is some popping noises that sounds like it might be a late ignition, It can be heard from the air box. Any suggestions?
I would have thought it was the fuel filter, except for the popping noises, thats the part that tripping me out.

Check your plugs and see if they look normal. I take it there is no check engine light? Maybe your fuel pump is going south.

fixed it

Ended up having a leaking fuel pulse damper. its on the back of the fuel rack, and is a pain to get to. I think it only leaked sometimes, or I just missed it the first time I looked. Figured I would post this incase someone has the same problem down the road.
