OK here I go. I also have a 1995 ford explorer and the enging light has been on now for quite some time. I was told that if I take off the battery leads and let it sit for a half hr. or so, this would reset it. Is this true. please let me know, also if this is how you do this.

Take it to a PepBoys or Advance Auto, they will usually pull the CEL code for you to let you know what caused it. Then you can proceed from there. Disconnecting the battery will sometimes reset the light, but if the original cause for it still exists, it will come back.

Yes, they will do this for free. The disconnecting - lead is kind of like a "soft reset". Or you can buy a ODB reader from Wally's.

Autozone also has the service. They can pull the codes and have them reset. Hopefully it's an easy fix like replacing O2 sensors.

You can even rent the tools at Autozone and return them for a full refund.

The Exploder is famous for doing this if you don't have the gas cap on correctly or if you don't have one or have a bad gasket on the one you do have.
