Engine monitoring

I was thinking about getting either a scan gauge or something like it but i have an Ipad that i use just for navigating when were on offroad trips so i figured id just mount that somewhere. Is there a good app that you guys can think of that monitors stuff like temp, oil psi, tranny temp, etc..?

I saw the dashcommand app but it just says that some stuff wont be compatible with some vehicles but doesnt say which ones and what wont work.

Go to ebay for a blue tooth OBd11 device and then download Torque. ... I don't think that you can do better on Android... and hope it works 4 you on ipad.

I use a scan gauge to monitor temps and it does work for the trans temp on the 03-05's as well just FYI. Its priceless when towing heavy

I looked for a good solution for this several months ago. Problem is that all of the affordable obII hook ups were not compatible with iOS, unless you jailbreak your device. Lots for android,as mentioned, like torque.

The apps are cheap, but a bluetooth sending device for iOS is spendy. There are cheaper wifi sending devices, but I've read many reviews about them just not really working.

Once I added everything up, I went with a scan gauge II. I found it on sale for around $100 and now I have a full time dedicated monitor for not too much more than the complete iOS setup would have been. Now my iPhone can stay in my pocket and I don't have to switch to android.

I put in the Ultraguage. It doesn't monitor tranny temp though. But since we have a tranny temp light I wasn't super worried.

I use Torque app on my Note2. I bought a $12 bluetooth OBD2 adapter and love it. I'd never buy a ScanGuage. It looks like an atari its so ancient and its also a bandaid for those who dont want to actually buy the proper stuff to fix their speedo/odometer.

which one did you buy off ebay? Seems like there's a ton on there... I have an droid cell phone so would like to get the torque app on that instead of the scangauge.

Yes, you can read tranny temp .... I had to custom code Torque for that but there are instructions on this site... and maybe by now they are included in Torque.

Yes the scan-guage will work if you have newer firmware on it. You need to program the "X-Guages" for them to work

Well that settles it for me! ... the Torque app and bluetooth obd2 seems like the cost effective way to go... $20'ish total (for the app and bluetooth scanner) vice $160 for the scangauge.... both seem to do the same thing.

[MENTION=87178]NuclearN8[/MENTION], the only bad thing about the bluetooth part is that its not a constant gauge, so its nice that it won't take up any dash real-estate and you can use it when you need to but at the same time its not always there so every time you get in your truck you have to open the app and have your phone out. You can find the scan gauge for about $100 online if you wait for a used one, or I paid $120 for a new one with a coupon from advance auto

That is the one... And yes you can read trans temp but you have to add that to the app. Instructions are pretty straight forward.

Also the app auto connects every time I get in my truck....

Plus with my pioneer avic z150 I can pull the display up on my navi screen!
