engine mount problem!?!

i took my 4runner into a gas station to get an oil change and the mechanic tells me that my engine mount must be the wrong one or just faulty because it is ever so slightly scraping against the oil filter which could eventually knock it off and blow up my engine?!? what!

now he then told me to fix this problem would run me $2400.

i am just going to assume (or hope) that he is completely trying to rip me off. i will take it into toyota next week.

does this sound legit or is it not as serious as he claims? any ideas?

thanks

Not sure whether to take this seriously or not, it almost sounds too crazy to be true. But anyway, if true, your mechanic is a class A con artist and you should run away as fast as possible. Even if you did need a motor mount, which unless your truck was wrecked I highly doubt, 2400 would just about get you a whole new motor. Replacing a mount involves jacking the engine up a bit, removing the old mount and installing the new one, any competent mechanic could do it in a few hours.

that was what i thought. i seem to have bad luck with mechanics. this last one wanted me to pay 700 for a new timing belt that i didnt even need. thanks for the input

oh and just so everyone knows, it was the guy at the 76 station on Grand in the lake merritt district of oakland, ca.

just in case you live in the area.
