I have a 1999 4R 4WD Limited. 6 cyl engine. 280k miles. This vehicle has had a lot of preventative maintenance. One thing I can't figure out is the engine noise. The engine sounds like a school bus, if you know what I mean. Y'know the sound a school bus makes when it is pulling hard up hill? Also, the vehicle doesn't really seem to have the pickup I would expect. If I floor it, it will shift into passing gear, but generallly speaking, the acceleration is never "zippy." It feels like it is geared low like a big truck. Does any of this sound normal? Any ideas on what I could check? I need to find a local 3rd gen to compare...but I figured it wouldn't hurt to ask here as well.
