Engine pressure wash

Hi everyone,

I have a 2015 Trail and I'd like to pressure wash the dried mud out of my engine bay and was wondering what the best way to do it is. Do I need to disconnect anything or is there any part that I should be sure to keep the water away from? Thanks!

I wouldn't use a pressure washer on mine. I would use a regular water pressure nozzle on a garden hose. After that if it was still ugly I would take it to my local detail shop.

If you use the wider spray pattern and avoid lingering on electrical connections you should be fine. Use the engine degreaser for the sensitive areas to help break up the junk and just get after it on the frame and suspension areas.

Just don't do it. Pressure washer and engine electronics are not friends. If you do it anyway - everything will be fine... for a while, but few years later if you start getting electronic gremlins don't say we didn't warn you.

a steamer from mccullough will be better. do small sections at a time, and dont get too close. its basically a more effective way of misting the engine.

I one and the pressure coming out is nothing compared to way people think. The steamer literally blows out steamy mist, there is no high pressure jet of water of coming out.

Check on ebay for a used one. I got a good deal on their biggest one, 100 bucks shipped to my door used with all accessories.

get a steamer, good bristle brushes, a gentle or diluted greaser and your good to go. and make some electrical connection cleaner.

I like to start cleaning out all my connections first around the wires before i clean the engine, then ill protect all the sensors after that with aluminum foil, and then clean the engine and surrounding areas.

import thing to note, small sections at a time, easier to manage.

and a nice air compressor is handy too to dry and blow loose dirt. I got a 220v 2 stage 60 gallon :banana:

edit: remove battery from the engine bay before doing anything, cover altenator, the chris fix video covers some good tips on what to remove and cover.

Why are people so scared about pressure washing their engine? Just don't hold the damn nozzle 2 inches away from parts line you are trying to clean a sidewalk and you are fine.

Just dont do it. I mean i would rather use a garden hose on COLD engine real kuik 10 seconds real kuik on wide spray pattern.
