Engine rear main seal leak!!!

HI, to all my Toyota friends...

I'm in great need of information about mechanics and Engine rebuilt on the Wa and OR area. Let me make this as short as possible, I just purchased my 1997 Runner SR5 4WD from a single owner last week. He gave it to me for a very good price but the RIG already have 310K miles on her plus the Rear main Seal is busted!!

I added 2 quarts of engine oil and drove it approx. 30 miles non stop from Marysville to Seattle by that time the Oil Engine light came up. The engine runs great with no loss of power or overheat that I notice but I really need advice on how to fix it. If last resort I was looking online on places to get a new engine.

I'm new in this Forum so I don't know much about the rules so I don't wanna mention any Auto Business or establishments by name.

Any suggestions from my fellow Yotas will be greatly appreciated.

If you're any good with a wrench, then get a copy of the Haynes or Chiltons for your truck, drop the transmission, and replace the seal. It's probably a long days work, maybe a whole weekend if you don't know your way around a socket set. If that doesn't sound like fun, get quotes from a couple mechanics and get ready to open up that wallet.
 
As stated above, you could do it in a day or so. My wife's has a small leak, not worth me fixing at the moment. I got a couple quotes, anywhere from $500-700. I am lucky as my buddies father in law does transmissions and has a lift at his house, so he'll help me out for a case of beer.
 
Can anyone chime in about dropping the transmission in a 3rd gen 4wd? how bad is it? ....just curious....
 
I tried my damnedest to pull the transmission out of my '97 and finally gave up. I got it to separate from the engine about 1/4" all the way around but for the life of me, I could not get it off. :/

It's not the funnest. I went to Toyota and asked for a copy of the service manual on how to do it. Only real pain was the connectors. Years of playin in mud and such made them a big pain to disconnect
