Engine Rebuild Options

Ok guys, I have a 93 4Runner with the 3.0 V6. Unfortunately its time for an engine rebuild. My question is, is it possible to do this without removing the engine from the truck? I would like to do it myself, but Im really not excited with the idea of pulling the engine.

Ive searched the forums and havent found this asked before so any input here would be great.

Clearly you are not talking about a full rebuild as it is impossible to do a re-bore while the engine is in the vehicle. Also replacing the main bearings would be a challenge but not impossible. Rod bearings would be no real problem. Reworking the heads the same no problem and all the rest that should be dome, knock sensor, timing belt and parts, water pump, and what ever else, all can be done while in the vehicle.
Also you did not mention if this was 2 wheel or 4 wheel as the 4 wheel does add to the difficulty on the bottom end.

The main thing on this calling for a rebuild is worn rings. So with any luck I can get that done.

Oh and it is 4wd.

Your going to have to take the motor out for that. I guess you dont HAVE to, but it will be 100 times easier if you do.

I would also look into the option of just swapping in a new motor or already rebuilt motor.

If you are going to rebuild it, just go all out. Take it out and do an entire rebuild.

Best option to save you time and frustration would be to remove the motor from the bay.. that way you have access to everything to make sure you get everything done correctly.. I believe it is possible to rebuild while inside the bay but it would be tough and time consuming from the bottom.. Strongly recommend just removing it..

well im sure it isnt that hard to pull the engine, but I dont have a hoist or an engine stand. Thats why my question came up. But given all this information ill probably get my hands on that stuff to make it easier.

Yes the engine removal is the easiest part lol.. rebuilding it and putting it back is the tough part.. but yeah you can find an engine stand for like $40 at a harbor freight if you have one near you.. engine stand is pretty common on craigslist and cheap at harbor freight also.. think I got mine for $100.00 on sale but thank again that was when i was 17 so its been awhile, and engine stand for $40.00
