Is it possible to remove transfer case then pull engine and automatic transmission as one unit after removing radiator? Thanks

Possible, yes.

Advisable. HELL NO.

I did it at a junk yard, and it was the biggest PITA ever.

If you're pulling the motor, just detach from the trans and pull it.

How do you get to the top bolts?

One of these. 35 INCH LONG extention

I will be switching out the engine and tranny. Thought I would ask as it looks like there is not enough room to slide the unit ahead and up without having to tip the tranny end down at a major angle. Finally found a suitable home for the engine-tranny out of my rolled 1998. Bought a 1999 SR5 with a bad tranny (pink milkshake victim) , engine runs , same transfer case as the 1998 and a little less rust on the frame.

Definitely doable. Just pull out the radiator as well. I've done it twice. And in my opinion I'd way rather do this then try to finangle the bell housing bolts out from under the truck on my back...just take your time and you'll get it out.

Take the crossmember out, let the transmission "hang" by the motor mounts.

Take the top two bolts out first, then put a jack under the transmission and take some of the strain off the motor mounts.

Take the rest of the bolts out.

Keep the jack under the trans so that way you can wiggle it backwards and pull it out.
