Engine runs rough after long downhill

I've got a strange situation and I can't figure it out. After a 10-15 minute drive down a steep, winding canyon road my engine (1995 3VZE, 5 speed trans) runs really rough. It will continue to run rough and stumble upon acceleration for a few minutes after the downhill drive. Any ideas what would cause this to happen?

I had a '73 VW Beetle once that had the same problem back in my surfer days.
Turns out someone fessed up later that they took a leak in my gas filler.
I drained the tank and was surprised how much "water" was in there.
A sasquatch would be about the right anatomically correct height to do the same to your 4 Runner.
