you changed the fuel filter?
I'd suspect bad gas. Any change in gas stations or did the tank get unusually low perhaps?

OP: i've been having the same problem too. Thought it was my fuel filter not feeding enough fuel. Changed that....problem still there. Ran multiple bottles of that chevron fuel injector/ system cleaner.....still problem. Cleaned MAF and TB plenty of times....still problem. Thought maybe it might of been wires so i changed my spark plug wires.....still problem. To Ron Helmuth: I've been pumping BP/Cheveron gas for the past 50 or so tank fill ups and i've had the same problem. HOWEVER...i've been reading about this IAC valve cleaning thing and im going to try it hopefully monday. If this solves the issue ill let you know.
Problem with me is whenever im at stop lights, my car tends to idle kinda rough and the engine actually shut off on me 2 times this past month.
Gunna try it monday and post up results for the week ahead!

Definitely clean the TB/IAC/MAF if you haven't already. You may also try testing/replacing the PCV valve. When you pull it out you should hear the little ball in the valve rattle when you shake it. Could be a cracked vacuum line too. You can go around all the vacuum lines with a propane bottle cracked open a little and if it sucks the propane through a vacuum leak, it'll stall or change the idle speed of your engine.

This (the propane trick) may also work to find that bad sparkplug wire:toilet:
So I have this problem occasionally but only for a few minutes after a extremely hard excelloration, then all is ok. I have never had this problem with normal driving

it never lit up the "Check Engine Light"?
Maybe have a auto parts store hook up to your diagnostic connector and just see if a code is there? Would sure narrow it down anyways.
I read pretty frequently about the Throttle Position Sensor. Any chance that is bad? Don't go changing things out without more to go on however....
and I can't help but wonder what kind of fuel pressure you are getting?

I notice the little diamonds next to the gaskets. How critical is it to install with new gaskets?

Unless you ruined one of the gaskets taking it off, then you should be ok with the old ones. If you want piece of mind then you can replace them.

If I were you, check the valve out electrically. Check the PDF on how to do it.
You cleaned it and still not working. You might have to replace it.

My 4runner (97 limited, 189k) stalls 2-3 times while idling at stoplights on a 5 mile commute home when theres traffic. Starts right up no problem, runs great otherwise. Mechanic says its a failed ignitor module and i've garaged it lately.. just curious if cleaning those parts works before i spend some money on this.

I have the same problem and have tried all the remedies in this link!
It's a 2000 4Runner. I had just changed the spark plugs before all this started. That went easy with no big problem and made a big difference in the performance! I had 120K miles on it.
That's when the stalling started. Since then and after waiting to refill the tank I cleaned the throttle body real good which was dirty. Now it idles perfectly, no hunting or seeking or rpm variation what so ever. BUT it still stalls on occasion when idling! Not as often, so I affected something.
Any other ideas??

98' 4runner- 188,000 miles and is stalling during red lights. I hope cleaning the throtle body does work because I ain't got the money for a mechanic!

FYI...
Just cleaned out my TB and the IACV lastnight after reading a lot of everyones posts and threads. I was having low idle issues and after checking all my vac hoses was looking for another avenue. There was a good bit of black buildup in the IACV and the rotating assembly was for sure having trouble operating as intended. After cleaning it all out along with parts of the TB aswell, I can report the car started much stronger than normal and have had a hand full of startups with out any issues!
Make sure this is at the top of your maintenance list!
